Robotic Empire launches BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY Kickstarter to release "For Smokers Only" weed-tribute album! +BIGass update (FALSE/BARGHEST split LP, tons of new distro stuff, etc)

It is with great amazement that we announce a recently-launched Kickstarter campaign in hopes of releasing a genuine BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY weed-tribute album on both CD and LP. This is obviously a unique release to come into our path, and we feel fully obligated to try making this a reality!

There have been none before or after that accurately compare to the exclusive quality and talent that is BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY, and to unleash this heady collection is a privilege we won't soon forget. Renown globally with over 30 million(!) albums sold worldwide, BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY are true groundbreakers with their unique combination of heartfelt melody and street realism. A variety of vocal speeds and skills are mixed with infectious beats, resulting in unparalleled rap in both substance and style.

(CD artwork, subject to change)
Comprised of a magnificent crop of tracks from across BONE THUGS and members impressive catalogs of recordings, "For Smokers Only" is an incredible 12-track homage to their favorite medicinal herb. This "For Smokers Only" collection has never been available before on CD or LP, previously released earlier this year solely as a digital-download, and some of the material featured here will be made available in the physical format for the very first time! The songs found here are a dozen high quality nuggets representing BONE THUGS' fondness for imbibing in an age-old ritual that many of us also know and love. The full track list is as follows:

We're doing this Kickstarter campaign with the goal of raising enough funds to start manufacturing CDs plus both the standard edition vinyl-LP and deluxe DIE HARD edition LP of "For Smokers Only", plus hopefully cover some licensing and legal fees, and basically just work with one of the most amazing hip hop bands on the planet!

This is a special opportunity to own BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY material on vinyl, as most of their albums that've been pressed on wax are now long out of print. In combination with the vinyl, a high-quality DIGITAL DOWNLOAD of "For Smokers Only" will be included with every LP ordered.

HERE IS WHAT WE PLAN ON MAKING:

* The CD will be packaged in a jewel case with full-color artwork.

* The standard vinyl LP will come on your choice of black or green vinyl packaged in a color jacket, and includes a high quality digital-download of the full album.

* The deluxe DIE HARD edition will come on limited "PURPLE HAZE" (purple-N-green) color vinyl housed in an oversized ziplock baggie, an exclusive "bud tribute" slipmat, a hand-numbered 11" x 17" screenprinted blacklight poster, stickers, 1.5" button, full album digital-download AND bonus additional download of the "Everyday Thugs" album!

* A special limited vinyl TEST PRESS edition, plus the truly massive "VIP MEGABONE" option...

Important Note: THIS RELEASE WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN NORTH AMERICA OUTSIDE OF THE LIMITED AMOUNT OF COPIES IMPORTED VIA THIS KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN!!

Because this release is being manufactured and distributed in Europe, pledge prices have been calculated to include the "import shipping" costs for USA orderers. People in other countries can order as well, please just see the "International Shipping" price section of the FAQ found within the Kickstarter campaign, as shipping for this release is a little different (and cheaper) than how we normally do things.

We've come up with a variety of different pledge options including super simple postage-paid CDs and LPs, wholesale options, the deluxe DIE HARD edition, a limited TEST PRESS option, plus an elaborate and crazy "VIP MEGABONE" $420 pledge option! Please see the Kickstarter campaign page for all of the details on everything we're offering here.

This is running for one month and we're basically aiming to treat it as an "elaborate pre-order". Although this is the most we've asked for to date, after two previous successful Kickstarter campaigns under our belt we're hoping this one will be a success as well.

That being said, the other campaigns definitely wouldn't have gone as well without kind people helping us spread the word. Seriously, a post on Facebook/Tumblr/Twitter/your blog/whatever actually helps a surprising amount, and we're totally down to hook up some bonus swag schwag at the end of this crazy thing if you wanna help us spread the word a bit. Just let us know at the end of the campaign if you posted something and we're happy to juice it up.

Here's the link, please share it!

Here's a short one: http://kck.st/U9LsYQ

An audio medley with a handful of clips from the album can be heard here:

YEA-UH! That pretty much sums it up! This is easily one of the most exciting and wildest things Robotic Empire has attempted in our nearly 14-year history. We've talked about truly breaking out of our "comfort zone" genres for years, and what better way to do it than with a freakin BONE THUGS-N-HARMONY release?! Nobody (even us) was expecting this, so PLEASE help us make this thing a hit by spreading the word if ya can.

BONE BONE BONE BONE BONE BONE....

So obviously that is the biggest news for us in a while, but far from all we've been up to lately. Besides working on prepping the BONE THUGS project for kind of a while, we've been busy stocking lots of AWESOME new tunes for the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Top on the list this time is the stunning FALSE / BARGHEST split LP, which our partner label Mirror Universe was kind of the catalyst for. A co-release with longtime brethren Gilead Media, this is one of the most blistering and relentless albums we've been involved with to date. Seriously incredible sophomore material from each band following two fantastic debut albums on Gilead last year, we are extremely stoked to have this in house and ready to rock. Dr. Broadcloak himself's timely OCD has proven itself glorious once again with an incredible package with fantastic artwork, a large poster insert and appropriately heavyweight vinyl. Fans of the heavy: DO NOT sleep on this one!

* Available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store

This release is also available to stream in full, with FALSE showcasing their material through the mighty Decibel Magazine, and BARGHEST via bandcamp.

* BARGHEST side
* FALSE side

FALSE is currently on the road as well: GO SEE THEM if they're coming near you!

FALSE and BARGHEST announce split album (now streaming in full), extensive US tour by FALSE to follow

Two of the finest underground US metal outfits have teamed up for an unstoppable split album: BARGHEST and FALSE will release a stunning 12" LP this summer via Gilead Media and Mirror Universe, a "partner label" of Robotic Empire.

FALSE and BARGHEST come from drastically different worlds, and their individual approaches to black metal reflect this. BARGHEST hail from the swamps of Baton Rouge, LA and take the misanthropic "anti-human/anti-life" angle, delivering disgustingly abrasive, lo-fi metal. A lineup without bass, yet full of unflinching aggression and thickness. FALSE call the frozen landscape of Minneapolis, MN home, and with a foundation of synth-tinged European black metal complimented by a hypnotic atmosphere, create intensely eerie music.

For all of their differences, they also share some key similarities. Each group released a debut album in 2011 with Gilead Media/Howling Mine, and both were met with overwhelmingly positive response from zines, blogs, and fans. FALSE and BARGHEST also each contain an oppressive quality in their respective sounds. This is not music for casual listening, but more akin to a psychological journey through realms devoid of light or hope.

BARGHEST offer two tracks for the split. "Shifting Sands" is one of the first songs the band ever wrote, and is finally now available in a physical format. Although an older piece, it still possesses the aesthetic BARGHEST solidified for themselves on their Untitled debut album. "Inhuman Hatred" follows, a brand new song with obvious death metal influences. It carries a greater sense of focus and purpose than the material from their full-length, without abandoning their unique style.

FALSE have grown in unbelievable ways since their debut 12". Their single track on this split--"Heavy as a Church Tower"--clocks in at nearly 18 minutes, and stands as hard evidence that FALSE are quickly becoming an undeniable force within American black metal. The ferocious intensity from their debut is amplified here, and paired with a more mature sense of mood and atmosphere. Their side of the split is very much FALSE, evolved.

Artwork for this split album has been crafted by Bryan Proteau of Natvres Mortes Illustration, with LP jackets printed on heavyweight stock. A printed inner sleeve is included, and 800 copies pressed on 180gram black vinyl.

This release is now available to stream in full, with FALSE showcasing their material through the mighty Decibel Magazine, and BARGHEST on bandcamp.

* FALSE side: http://www.decibelmagazine.com/listen/streaming-false-heavy-as-a-church-tower/

There you go, the entire split before your very ears. Pre-orders will come later in July via both Gilead Media and Mirror Universe/Robotic Empire.

Robo Kickstarter 2.0: Custom Care Packs and MEGA CHEAP lots aplenty!

Now we gone n dun it: another Robotic Empire Kickstarter has been launched! Why? Because we're seriously out of room at RoboHQ and need to clear some much-needed space for upcoming releases aplenty.

We've dug through the archives and found some oddball items to offer up, plus we're doing pick-and-choose CD lots for well below cost.

For real, $10 gets you 10 CDs, $20 gets you 25 CDs, $50 gets you 30 titles (including the 8xCD FLOOR set, new 2xCD AIDAN BAKER release and some other jammers). We've got test presses from ISIS, GHASTLY CITY SLEEP and TILTS, discounted damaged goods, an overstock-vinyl-lot, and will probably add some other jibba jab as it surfaces.

Total goal amount: $420

This is more of a space-making endeavor than a money making one, so please check it out as the deals are pretty retardo.

To please kickstarter's guideline-enforcers, we are calling these "Custom Robotic Empire Care Packs" and will draw whatever madness you want on the box, sales receipt and/or anywhere else. This was surprisingly popular during our previous/first Kickstarter for the TILTS LP release (which is nearly sold out now too, we've got about 25 copies left) so we're upping the ante this time and making it standard practice for all orders made via this campaign.

So get weird with it: Wanna see the Terminator hitting a gravitybong: DONE. How about a unicorn battling a dinosaur? DEAL. Or maybe a mystic wizard cooking up some pancakes? Strange, but OKAY. Basically whatever dumb stuff you can conjure up: we'll scrawl it onto or within your package wherever we can.

Yes, this is goofy... but we're trying to keep this space-making operation interesting, for both you and for us. So please hit up our Kickstarter page and help us make this happen! Gotta say too, the success of the TILTS campaign was heavily indebted to people posting it on their various social media outlets and forums... so if you're willing to share this stupidity, we'll gladly throw in some BONUS SCHWAG at the end of the campaign. Just let us know when we send out the "kickstarter survey" thing at the end and we'll juice ya up!

THANKS!

ISIS and PG.99 represses & shirts, new NADJA shirt + FLOOR discography discount, a bat PEEING in TILTS/TORCHE guitarist's EYE +lotsa new distro items!

This diverse update first sees us with two influential bands' catalog items back in print, with vinyl from ISIS and PG.99 getting the re-press treatment. Although the sonic differences are significant, each group created a lasting legacy that still holds long after their disbanding.

ISIS' landmark albums Oceanic and Panopticon are both back in action on the 2xLP format, each with "reverse board" printing throughout (Oceanic getting the massive "tip-on" style jackets, and Panopticon printed via reverse-board for the very first time). The band requested simple black-vinyl for the entire pressing and after a smattering of variations over the years, this keeps things nice and simple.

* ISIS items in the Robotic Empire - Online Store (including vinyl and t-shirts)
* ISIS on Facebook

PAGENINETYNINE reunited last year for a couple of well received and emotionally cathartic live performances. To celebrate, we issued their long out-of-print collections CD, Singles, on the overdue vinyl format. The entire pressing sold out, so a shorter run of 250 more on black vinyl have just been pressed to fill the remaining silkscreened jackets we had kicking around. In classic makeshift fashion, some copies come with the proper "printed innersleeve" that houses the vinyl, and some copies come with a xerox insert of the same artwork instead. Keeping it DIY to keep it in print!

Related, we also recently re-printed two classic PG.99 t-shirt designs. Most sizes are still available, although before even announcing their availability they started heading right back out our doors.

* PAGENINETYNINE items in the Robotic Empire - Online Store (including vinyl, t-shirts and a screen print)
* PAGENINETYNINE on Facebook

Again sonically different but equally recommended, in celebration of TORCHE's magnanimous new album Harmonicraft coming out later this month, we've decided to discount the closely-related FLOOR discography 8xCD set, Below & Beyond. Everything this seminal sludge-turned-pop outfit ever recorded is contained within this massive collection, and with the deluxe vinyl edition now sold out, this 8xCD release is the only (physical) way to own the monstrous amount of material these geniuii churned out.

The price is tightnice too, as if you enter the "FLOORTWENTY" coupon code at checkout, the price drop to, ahem, $20. Pretty galldarn good for 8 stacked CDs, a bigass 12"x12" 32(!)-page booklet and a custom gatefold jacket holding it all together. BONUS SCHWAG: coupon-code enterers also get a free FLOOR 8xButton set as well, depicting all the album covers from the discography. If you've slacked on this crucial mega-release thus far, hit that up with the quickness as the discount+hookup only goes through the end of this month.

* FLOOR items in the Robotic Empire - Online Store (including the discography, buttons, lots of t-shirts and a 2xDVD)
* FLOOR on Facebook

FLOOR also has three live gigs on deck in the coming months as well. If you're on the US East Coast, or in England... don't miss em!

* 4/14 - Savannah, GA @ Statts Benefit Block Party - w/ US CHRISTMAS, WITHERED, lots more - more info: http://www.friendsofstatts.com
* 5/26 - London, UK @ All Tomorrow's Parties - w/ MOGWAI, CODEINE, HARVEY MILK, lots more - more info: http://www.atpfestival.com
* 7/6-7/8 - Miami, FL @ 305 Fest - w/ TORCHE, HOUSE OF LIGHTNING, BASTARD NOISE, lots more - more info: http://305-fest.blogspot.com

We also have a fantastic and enveloping new t-shirt design from our favorite prolific doom-couple, NADJA! The Berlin-via-Canada duo have teamed up with Berlin-via-Sweden tattoo artist HLG for this brilliant new shirt. Simple but stark, black ink printed on grey supersoft "Next Level" brand t-shirts. Need a new favorite shirt? Seek ye no further! This really is nice...

* NADJA (and related) items in the Robotic Empire - Online Store (including shirts, CDs, vinyl, a book and more)
* NADJA on Facebook

Besides that rad new shirt and what we consider essential Robo catalog items re-pressed or discounted, we've also had a healthy amount of bombastic new items and re-stocks enter our world for this update.

On the new item tip, we're talking turkey bout killer vinyl from AMENRA, CLOUD MOUTH, DAITRO, DARK CASTLE, KEN MODE, KIDCRASH, MT. ASLEEP, SED NON SAETIA, TUBERS and more.

For restocks, lets rap about an ALGERNON CADWALLADER re-up for all you jangly mofos, BLACK COBRA vinyl and THE BODY 2xLPs are At A Loss essentials that are going quick, CAPSULE's latest ripper on the ltd waxy, COLISEUM, GIVE UP JAH GHOST, PUNCH, TOUCHE AMORE and TRAP THEM bludgeoners from Deathwish, DES ARK and PYGMYLUSH prettys LPs from Lovitt, MELT BANANA and smokeloads more from the prolific Init, the cool/oldschool-esque DON'T BE SWINDLE zine, plus a handful of other freaky gems weaved throughout just the restocks for this round. Here're the full lists:

NEW ITEMS:
* Algernon Cadwallader - Parrot Flies 12" (Hot Green) $9.99

ALLLL that gravy and more is available NOW in the Robotic Empire - Online Store

AND last but most likely not least, some crazy mainstream news activity has been surrounding TILTS guitarist/vocalist (and TORCHE guitarist) Andrew Elstner's recent run in with a rogue bat. A viral press bonanza has stemmed from a freak accident where a bat PISSED IN ANDREW'S EYE and things snowballed from there. There was a rabies scare, freaked out friends/family and subsequent emergency treatment... all detailed on MSNBC, MTV, BUZZFEED, PITCHFORK and more. This is too absurd not to share (you can't make this kinda stuff up!)... so have at it if you've been under a rock:

* MTV Coverage
* Buzzfeed Coverage
* Pitchfork Coverage
* Lambgoat Coverage

Also significant: TILTS' infectious vinyl debut dropped about a month back and has sold swiftly (we've got roughly 50 copies left in house). You can get this unlucky man's gloriously catchy music direct from us:

TILTS kickstarter - home stretch (last few days!)

We're officially in the home stretch now with just 4 days left to go on the TILTS Kickstarter campaign!

I've got to be honest, my OCD is gonna have a slight conniption if we don't reach that smooth 3k mark (we're roughly a hundred bucks away)! Its partly an even-number thing, and its partly a "costs covered" kind of thing, as we'll be able to pay for the vinyl pressing up front in full if we hit that 3k mark. T-shirts, hoodies and all the other cool non-music extras will be stuff we'll still be forking out for, but the whole point of this wild project was to see if we could get this LP pressed in full through Kickstarter funding.

If you're willing to help spread the word, even just a quick Facebook or Twitter post, maybe on another forum you post on or your blog... please know, it'd actually be genuinely appreciated. This Kickstarter campaign really would not have worked out without kind folks (and the press) spreading the word, saying kind things on their blog and elsewhere... it means so much to us at the label and the band as well. We're all VERY excited to get the finished LPs, which are in the initial stages of production already :)

THANK YOU to everyone and anyone who's helped contribute to this project in any way, be it pledging for the album, talking trash on a message board, just listening to and enjoying the tunes... or any other way you may have interacted with this crazy thing.

Thanks again, peace!

-Team Robo

AIDAN BAKER's new 2xCD set for January 17th release, first preview tracks posted

Berlin-via-Montreal transplant AIDAN BAKER (one 1/2 of prolific duo NADJA) has set his latest double album, "The Spectrum of Distraction", for a January 17th release date. Robotic Empire will be releasing the album worldwide as a 2xCD and expanded digital download.

Designed to be intentionally played at random, "The Spectrum of Distraction" is 96 tracks spanning a vast array of genres, creating a completely unique yet rewarding listen each time. Baker solicited drum tracks from 18 different drummers (including current and former members of SWANS, THE JESUS LIZARD, SLOWDIVE, KILLING JOKE, GODFLESH, JESU and more) which he then crafted instrumental work atop of.

In regards to constructing the album, Baker said,
"Originally I was going to stick pretty strictly to Zappa's 'xenochrony' idea of randomly putting pieces of instruments together, so that the drums, bass, and guitar would be recorded separately and then pieced together to see what came out. In the end, because of some different times and textures, instead of taking individual drum loops, I just used the entire track and recorded to everything I got."

Six hours of material was the result, of which Baker then pieced down to two hours across the pair of discs. Thematically complimented by a "Choose Your Own Adventure" style layout, an extended session of the full recordings is also included as an digital download card.

With organizing the playback of the release, Baker had the following to say:
"I structured it so that it would be a different listen every time... A couple of people that I sent it to ... let it shuffle between the two separate discs and not just the one disc. That's yet another possibility... They can listen to it as sequenced if they want, too. I set it up to have some kind of flow that way, but it's up to the listener, really. "

A handful of preview tracks are surfacing now, with the first to accompany a a lengthy Pitchfork Media feature on Aidan Baker, "The Spectrum of Distraction" and other collaborations:

Further tracks posted from "The Spectrum of Distraction" will be announced soon, and pre-orders for the 2xCD +digital download of the physical release are now available through Robotic Empire and their distributor Revolver:

Kickstarter alert: TILTS debut album (current TORCHE / ex-RIDDLE OF STEEL)

The times they are a'changing: Robotic Empire is trying out Kickstarter!

It's not without good reason: we 1.) want to release the badass debut album by TILTS, but 2.) can't afford it at the present time. Instead of racking up more debt at an already financially-skinny time, we're testing the waters with ye olde Kickstarter.

TILTS is comprised of our old comrade Andrew Elstner (formerly of RIDDLE OF STEEL and now also currently of TORCHE) on guitar and vocals, plus three of his close friends also from St. Louis, Missouri: Shawn Hart on bass, Ken McCray on drums and Andy White on guitar.

These dudes self-recorded 12 tracks over three sessions at their home studio, then ponied up to have Richmond engineer Ian Whalen (RAH BRAHS, TOMBS, LAMB OF GOD, etc) re-mix the whole shebang.

She's a killer album that way more people need to hear, so we're attempting to both raise awareness of the band as well as drum up the two grand needed to have it all properly mastered and pressed on vinyl + digital download.

Hopefully that's where you come in, as we've set up six different "pledge" options for this thing ranging from $5 to $666. Pretty much every one involves getting the album, and we've trying to keep it interesting as this is basically set up as an elaborate "pre-order". Long story short, we've tried to use the better parts of Kickstarter's setup to make this exciting for anyone who decides to check it out.

So yeah, please check it out:

* TILTS - debut album at Kickstarter

We've got it set up to run for two months since the holidays could throw things off a bit, but ideally we can raise 2grand for this thing and get this badass album released pronto. If this works out, we've got some other cool ideas for future projects to run through Kickstarter.

This TILTS album is catchy as hell but generally unheard, so we're excited to spread the word about one of our in-house favorite bands. We've seriously jammed this thing in repeat for the better part of a year and are glad to finally get this crazytrain in motion!

For a lot more information and to preview additional tracks in full (the video above is just a medley) please check out the Kickstarter page.

Also, thanks for reading/humoring this... bring it!!

* TILTS - debut album at Kickstarter

* TILTS on Facebook

p.s. if you like this on any level, please spread the word! We need as many people as possible to check out TILTS!!

"this is a real ep" (aka, two awesome THOU reviews!)

It's pretty awesome and inspiring when we get sent reviews for a release we didn't even mail out promos for. BIG ups to Ian Wise and Demian Johnston for taking the time to review the THOU, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP all on their own volition. Seriously, much appreciated!

Thou somehow manage to consistently put out fully realized records with obviously thoughtful artwork and meticulous packaging. And they do so at a pace that makes me embarrassed of how slowly my own musical endeavors come together. This release, their most recent 12” EP (it’s four songs, but each side is about 15 minutes, so “EP” is sort of misleading) sums up most things I love about the band. Their earlier releases were heavy, but focused on slow parts with really pretty sounding guitar harmonies. I loved it, but recently they’ve picked up the pace a little and have gotten much, much more dissonant in their sound. This record is no less abrasive than the “Smoke Pigs” track they contributed their split with Black September, but they have some spacey, jammy parts that go well with their sludge aesthetic and help the record flow better as a long player. The tracks here also seem less disjointed than songs on Tyrant or Peasant, both of which had some awkward changes. Of course, the packaging is great as the band partnered with the always diligent Robotic Empire, the only people who may actually be nerdier than Thou about vinyl packaging. -Ian Wise / Razorcake (buy here)

holy shit. this is fantastic. super heavy, super thick and totally amazing sounding. you can really tell they gave a shit in releasing this. i have no idea if this is coming out in any other formats but this is a real ep. so often bands will release a cassette to keep some sort of "cred" going but it ends up being some throw away demos or noise from a band that has no business making noise. this feels real. two heavy and interesting originals on the a side and an instrumental laden with samples and really heavy guitars followed by a Nirvana cover with a killer guitar solo using a phase shifter in a excellent way. the way this sounds is also another reason why having James Plotkin master your releases will never make you regret the affordable price. you just have to hear it. it sounds amazing. the packaging is a double sided screenprinted three panel j card and it looks fantastic. the artwork is great, the music is great. i used to not really dig thou but after the last couple things i have heard i am completely sold. great work. - Demian Johnston / Dead Formats

This release is still available on both formats (vinyl and cassette):
* THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For 12"
* THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For Cassette
* THOU - Most of the rest of their (available) standalone releases, plus t-shirts/etc

BLACK TUSK limited tour-only 12"!! Signed n' numbered Baizley artwork, ltd to 350... heads up!

Hot on the heels of the EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE discography LP release (more info here if you missed it), we've got another very limited and deluxe LP exclusively available in the Robotic Empire - Online Store. This time is the (otherwise) tour-only edition of BLACK TUSK's debut album Passage Through Purgatory, released by our longtime Savannah brethren at Hyperrealist.

This beast of an album was dropped on unprepared souls a few years back, and with the first press long sold out Hyperrealist was wise enough to make another small batch for a recent tour. However, only 350 copies were made in total, and much of those went to the band themselves. We are the only mailorder spot to get this, and with a finely silk screened multi-color John Dyer Baizley jacket, we don't expect them to last too long.

Even so, we still want to apologize for the high price tag on this one, but apparently it cost a small fortune to press and print. We got 150 copies of the 350 made, and the price is $29.99. This also comes on a beautiful teal colored vinyl, and hand-signed n' numbered by our old dawg John Baizley himself.

This is truly a beautiful release though and worth every penny, with brutal jams to boot. BLACK TUSK have recently released their followup album on Relapse Records and have been road warriors for years. Their southern sludge stomp isn't easily matched, and its not surprising they're often uttered in the same breath as their fellow Georgian peers BARONESS, KYLESA and MASTODON. For those unfamiliar, you can preview their burly tunes here.

The special tour edition of Passage Through Purgatory is available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Its also worth reiterating the latest Robotic Empire label release, one an insanely long time in the making. EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE were a crushing (and very ahead-of-their-time) band outta Austin, Texas and we just released their full discography LP. A whole lot of info on that can be found here and the release itself (and/or a silkscreen print) is now available exclusively through us, here.

Besides those two elaborate LP releases, we've gotten in another gnarly batch of items for the Robotic Empire - Online Store. Not exactly a ton of stuff, but almost all heavy hitters. Here ya go:

NEW ITEMS:
* Accept Death - Self-Titled 12" (Hydrophonic) $14.99
* Black Tusk - Passage Through Purgatory - TOUR EDITION, TEAL COLORED VINYL 12" (Hyperrealist) $29.99

EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE discography LP finally released, tons of shirts +way more - BIG UPDATE!

The big news for the Robotic Empire - Online Store this week is the extremely long awaited release of the EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE discography! An untold time in the making (the master alone has been done for 4 years), we are absolutely thrilled to finally present this beast to you!

Early pioneers of mixing metal, punk, grind and hardcore, Austin, Texas' EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE were almost TOO ahead of their time... blowing away the few that "got it", leaving others slack-jawed and stunned. We were beyond words when witnessing these fiends in the late 90's, and in the Robodog heyday were lucky enough to release the sic[sic] CD followup to their classic debut EP, Mother Spain and the Wayfaring Myth. Both of which comprise this stunning discography release.

Recorded back in 1998 and 2000, seriously think for a minute about what you were doing during that timeframe. These guys were busy pushing envelopes left and right, doing things that may seem somewhat commonplace today, but were generally weird and/or unheard of back in those days. They were one of the few bands that flawlessly incorporated both low, growly vocals AND dissonant melody within hardcore music... and beyond that, they actually constructed damn good songs utilizing additional elements pulled from punk, metal and grindcore influences.

The audio has been carefully re-mastered from the original DAT tapes... and ten blistering songs that absolutely stand the test of time are the result of many years of work. The hair-standing lyrics are still just as vital today as in they days which they were written, accompanying waves of distorted yet lush guitars, completely frantic and unique drumming, plus a general energy and passion that is hard sought and much coveted. To put it lightly, EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE were a band of rare quality.

Part of the reason why this release has taken so long to see the light of the day is the artwork. Originally designed with the CD-sized format of sic[sic] in mind, Aaron Turner's original layout has been meticulously reconstructed for the vinyl edition. Keeping the feel and theme of sic[sic] in mind, the imagery has been modified to spread across two LP-sized panels of a three-color silkscreened jacket (printed by Broken Press, another photo of which can be seen here). Also included is a double sided photocopied insert, cloth patch, 1" button and free digital download. We are charging $12.99 for this release; all copies come on clear colored vinyl and the entire pressing is limited to just 300 copies.

A lot of thought and time has gone into the presentation of this release, as it is the last will and testament to a band from another era. EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE left a lasting impression on us that started over a decade ago, and we're honored to present this discography for your enjoyment. We hope you'll take something from it as well.

* This is available NOW in the Robotic Empire - Online Store
* Two preview tracks from this discography release can be heard on our Facebook and/or Myspace pages
* One track can be downloaded (along with 17 others) on our recent FREE Robotic Empire - Label Sampler 2k10

Phew! Wow, quite a lot to say about a band that only so many people have heard of. PLEASE check out the discography if you can though, we highly recommend it! Beyond that, we've also got an outstanding update for the Robotic Empire - Online Store that would be noteworthy even without the EMPLOYER, EMPLOYEE LP:

Standout new stuff this time include the long-awaited DOVE vinyl release (ex-FLOOR, ex-CAVITY, pre-HOUSE OF LIGHTNING), two excellent GRAILS LP reissues on color wax that the band recently re-pressed themselves (both of which we originally released), plus a slew of killer t-shirts officially licensed by Bad Skulls including CHARLES BRONSON, IRON LUNG and SPAZZ! On the re-stock tip we've got a handful of distributor-returned BATTLE OF MICE / JESU CDs (last chance to dance on this one), DOLCIM LPs, two shirts from Eat Death and a couple other jammers as well. Here's the full list:

New FREE Robotic Empire sampler (some exclusive/unreleased stuff/etc)

Its been a long time since we did one of these (4 years, in fact) and while we've intentionally dropped the ball on promotion a bit over the past few years, thankfully we are still able to deliver almost an hour of weird new music for all you freaks, absolutely FREE.

No, we haven't gone "crunk core" (thank jah), we are just so psyched to see LIL JON rocking a new THOU shirt that we had to make an ode to him with this free sampler.

18 tracks, 52 minutes, 101 megabytes for your cranium to comprehend. Free (of course), cause we love you (of course). Lots of choice cuts, plus some unreleased and/or exclusive new jammers, if you're into that sorta thing. Check that shit, SON:

New releases & re-presses from THOU, HEWHOCORRUPTS, SHITSTORM, SUFFOCATE FOR FUCK SAKE and more!

We are psyched to announce that the previously (and quickly) sold out THOU EP, Baton Rouge, You Have Much to Answer For, is now available again on both vinyl and cassette. We re-pressed the vinyl on black (1000) and tapes on red (200). Same artwork, same inserts, same music and all... just available again, this time with a sweet corresponding t-shirt printed up as well. The shirt is (reappropriated) artwork from the gatefold LP jacket's back cover, and turned out really awesome. 2-color front, 1-color back and red & black ink on "athletic grey" sweatshop-free t-shirts; you can see a bigger image of the front artwork here. There's no package deals or anything set up, but we tried to keep the prices pretty low on all this stuff.

For those living under a rock and still unfamiliar with the grossly prolific THOU, they are easily our favorite southern sludge/doom band in years and a true force to be reckoned with both live and on record. A seething ode to their city of inception, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For contains by far some of THOU's best material released to date, and one of the most downtrodden recordings we've been a part of over the past 11+ years of doing this label. It's an "EP" because it's 4 songs total, but it's also over 30 minutes of crushing music, set to the tune of the end of times. Like all of their recordings, its available for free download on their website or if you're oldschool and want the physical "real thing", this EP and most of the rest of the available THOU releases are available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Related to this (but not actually our release) is a killer writeup NPR (!) just gave in regards to both THOU's live experience and their new album Summit. Very cool to see such a respected publication shine a little light down into the underground, this time directly onto our friends. You can read the article here and/or pre-order the new Summit CD release from our brethren at Gilead Media (we'll be stocking it too as soon as its publicly available).

At another end of the hardcore/metal spectrum is the recent HEWHOCORRUPTS Midi of Profits USB Rubber Bracelet release. Attacking capitalism through a more tongue-in-cheek approach (vs THOU's somewhat blunt methods), HEWHOCORRUPTS have flown the "corporate grindcore" flag for years, culminating in probably their most absurd release ever (exceeding a credit card-sized CD housed in a wallet, a NSFW split calendar and a 7" packaged with shredded US currency). Yes, that's right... this is a functional AND fashionable USB-chip-infused rubber bracelet with meticulously recreated MIDI-based songs held within, inspired in part by their classic Master of Profits EP which displayed a masterful love/hate relationship with METALLICA. Long story short, this 1gb USB chip bracelet is packed with music, videos, tabulator, animated GIFs and other awesome nonsense to justify the pure stupidity of creating this thing. Limited to 200 copies and available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Beyond the recent label activity, there's also been a steady stream of killer new stuff and restocks in the Robotic Empire - Online Store. This week we've got another "exclusively distributed" item, the new one from Swedish post-metal outfit SUFFOCATE FOR FUCK SAKE. We couldn't keep their previous stuff in stock, and are the only US outlet you can order this monster 2xLP from. Also new in the expletive-band-name front is the long-awaited blistering split 7" from SHITSTORM and CONGA FURY, showcasing easily the heaviest n' fiercest SHITSTORM tracks to date. Solely re-stocking cassettes this week, mostly from our screamy-hardcore-lovin' Malaysian friends at Utarid, here's the full list:

HEWHOCORRUPTS release "Midi of Profits" USB bracelet (!) on Robotic Empire +big Online Store updates

In the works for a stupidly long time, its kind of amazing we didn't (completely) spill the beans on this one. Chicago's HEWHOCORRUPTS are no stranger to weird releases; the "corporate grindcore" outfit have formerly issued a credit card sized CD housed in a wallet, a NSFW split calendar, an EP packaged with shredded money, etc... but this one probably takes the cake.

Midi of Profits is what it's called, and a frikkin 1gb USB bracelet is what it is: that's right, we've released a rubber USB bracelet with MIDI songs on it. The files in question are meticulously re-created computerized versions of HEWHOCORRUPTS' classic Master of Profits EP, but now with MIDI guitars, machine drums and vocoded vocals. An insane amount of time was spent making these completely absurd tracks, and we are blown away with how accurately they digitally reflect the originals.

To spice it up even further, the band includes tablature for all the songs, two classic/incredible/related music videos, album art, credits and more on this fully functional 1gb USB-chip-infused rubber bracelet. Fashionable AND functional, per the HEWHOCORRUPTS corporate mantra. You can wear it and share it, but the only place to get this beaut is through the Robotic Empire - Online Store (and the band themselves). We only made 200 of these bad mamma jammas, so grab one now or forever cry yourself to sleep.

* LISTEN HERE
* ORDER HERE

Appropriately we are also running a large scale sale at the moment, to clear some room for "fresh new stock" per our own corporate mantra. In other words, we're selling all standalone CDs and DVDs on our site (priced over five bucks) for $2 less than usual right now, even if they're already discounted! This "clearance special" is only running until the end of the month, so check it out now if you like shiny discs on the cheap!

Beyond those white-collar activities, we also have a host of new jams for all the blue-collar and no-collar punx out there. This week the Robotic Empire - Online Store sees new additions from the absurdly prolific THOU, longtime favorites DOVE, Richmond's SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA's new one, the revamped INTEGRITY and more. Plus a fairly stacked Init Records restock makes this a sweet little stash o' stuff:

Finally, we also want to mention we've added another band to our roster: NEON BASTARD from New Zealand will see their debut album "Meikhaus" released by us on September 7th. Uncomfortably nestled somewhere in the midst of powerviolence/punk/sludge/grind/stoner rock... these four weirdos have concocted an maniacal debut and we're psyched to release it! You can read more about all that here. Heads up!

Thanks ya'll / peace!

Robotic Empire to release NEON BASTARD debut "Meikhaus"

We've teamed up with the Wellington, New Zealand band NEON BASTARD for the release of their debut album, Meikhaus. Comprised of 11 songs in under 22 minutes, Meikhaus is a total blitzkrieg of blasting punk rock, stoner riffs and pure noise.

Two preview tracks have been posted (well, hidden) on the band's hideous myspace page, here:

http://www.myspace.com/NeonBastard
(try zooming out your browser if you want to hear them)

About as far from "normal" as a band can get, Robotic Empire is thrilled to team up with the weirdos in NEON BASTARD, who embody elements vital to underground music: damn good tunes without taking oneself too seriously. A smattering of genres are covered throughout the songs within Meikhaus; the track listing as follows:

1. Steven Tyler
2. Lateman
3. Cock Rock
4. Mangy Feline
5. I'm Your Bastard
6. Don't Tread on Me
7. Mad F'ing
8. Kano and Rongburns on the Nose Candy
9. Pushah
10. Big Dogz
11. c.2023

NEON BASTARD's debut will be available on CD and through digital download worldwide on September 7th, 2010, with a pro-filmed video for "Mangy Feline" to shortly follow the album's release.
