Over the past seven years we've released a lot of records involving Bryant Clifford Meyer. To get specific: over a dozen (TWO dozen if counting box sets). First within ISIS, then RED SPAROWES and finally WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN, we've been lucky to be a part of the bulk of BCM's massive catalog of awesome tunes. So many good songs flow from this dude and his kin that we're thrilled to announce today FOUR new releases and re-presses involving ol' comrade Cliff. Several years in the making, WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN thankfully return from obscurity to deliver an unexpected and stunning second album. Awash in waves of droney guitars, lush melodies and a vastly increased use of vocals (which were almost non-existent on the debut), WINDMILLS BY THE OCEAN have created a truly hypnotic sophomore album. Reaching far beyond the limits of "post-rock", these five varied tracks shift through the spectrum of being haunting, triumphant, captivating, oppressive and completely uplifting. Its a real "listening experience" that is rare to find at this caliber, expertly crafted by an array of musicians seasoned by years spent in ISIS, RED SPAROWES, 27, BLACKTAIL and more.

Los Angeles' RED SPAROWES bypass the fabled sophomore slump by leaps and bounds on their second album, Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun, and after being sold out for a few years, this impressive 2xLP is finally available again! There is a definitively darker approach on this album, and the reference points of the past are less apparent, yet the band evokes intense emotions with more variety and depth than ever before. First released back in 2005, we're pretty hyped to have RED SPAROWES' first album At The Soundless Dawn back in print after being sold out for years now. An undeniably massive album with an unconventional approach to creating instrumental aural landscapes. Dropping generous hints to shoegaze's glorious past, RED SPAROWES debut subtly employs reverberating guitars to explore darker passages that flow more like orchestral movements than modern rock songs. A fantastic debut album, this 2xLP comes housed in a gatefold jacket and is finally available again!

Last (and certainly not least) in this massive Bryant Clifford Meyer-related-update is the quick repress of ISIS' recent Oceanic 2xLP reissue we just dropped. The entire pressing blew out in roughly a month so we chose to go ahead and fill the remaining 200 "tip on" gatefold jackets with a brief run of clear vinyl. This is likely to be the last of these for a little while, so nab one while you can. PHEW! Wow, thank you Cliff for all the music and for whatever comes next! Incredibly though, this isn't even all of the label activity as we've got more on deck as well...


This outrageous 4-color MAGRUDERGRIND shirt design took literally years to finish, but we're stoked to finally have this bad mamma jamma finished! The photos can't seem to do this one justice (it looks awesome in person) and the original image for this wasn't quite as intricate, so many hours were spent adding further detail to incorporate full usage of all 4 colors on this beastly t-shirt! MAGRUDERGRIND are one of the most brutal grind bands around, but also thankfully not afraid to stray from the path. This shirt is an accurate representation of that, with a classic skull image (including melting face partially still intact) joined by psychedelia, a beating heart, flowers and gnarly maggots. A perfect smattering of elements for one of our favorite heavy/fast bands going right now. Printed on super comfy brown Alstyle brand shirts (both sweatshop free & akin to American Apparel texturally), this one has been a long time coming and turned out awesome! Affiliated in regional heathenism are the badass COUGH t-shirts we recently stocked direct from the band. Although this isn't exactly Robo-related, we did hustle them to print up these shirts... and since they actually made them themselves in maximum DIYness, we stocked up on THREE different designs. COUGH have been playing some awesome slow n' heavy evil music for years now, and we're psyched that our RVA bros are finally getting some solid attention elsewhere as well. OK last thing before the utterly ENORMOUS distro updates... the recent Ryan McLennan "sequel" Robotic Empire shirt got photographed along with all the other new shirts, and since it turned out awesome we wanted to mention it again as well. This is printed on one of the most comfortable (affordable) t-shirts around, the American Apparel grey tri-blend shirt, which we've printed on before with a very positive response. Actually wearing this new shirt while typing up this big update - feels good! It really is stupidly soft and comfortable, and the badass image of a freakin' moose tearing up a robot bear does us just right! pg.99 to reunite and perform "document #8" in its entirety!

Sterling, Virginia punk rock band pg.99 is returning for a live performance at this summer's Best Friends Day in Richmond, Virginia. Also known as pageninetynine, the influential group is reuniting after an 8 year absence of activity to perform their seminal album "document #8" in its entirety.

Taking place from August 18th to the 21st this year, Best Friends Day is an annual event that started as a single day and has evolved into a weekend-long festival based on taking a break from the stresses of the world to just hang out and have a good time with your friends. When asked why they are reuniting now, pg.99 guitarist Mike Taylor responded with:

"After a few reunion offers in recent months, it kind of just got us thinking that it would be fun to play those songs again, and if we were ever going to do it again, that now would be the time... We felt Richmond would be great place to do a reunion because of pg.99's early involvement with that area and its punk scene in the late nineties."

The Best Friends Day organizers are thrilled to have pageninetynine on the bill celebrating BFD's 10th year as an event, and are announcing them as the first band confirmed for the weekend: "When we initially started planning Best Friends Day 10, we wanted to have a killer band that could share this milestone year with us, and nothing hits home better than one of Virginia's best DIY bands ever," says organizer Curtis Grimstead. "I couldn't be more excited about having pg.99 reunite for Best Friends Day 10."

Formed in 1998, pageninetynine steadily gained notoriety as almost a cult of a band, with upwards of 8 people performing at the peak membership. With a menacing sound combining a wide variety of heavy/punk genres, pageninetynine was renown for their powerful and passionate live performances. In their five years of prolific activity they released 14 records and played over 300 live shows, earning them a formidable reputation and widespread dedicated following.

Since disbanding in 2003 the many members of pg.99 have gone on to form a slew of bands, including but not limited to Pygmy Lush, Ghastly City Sleep, Tideland, Malady and more. While active, the band released albums with Robotic Empire, Reptilian, Electric Human Project, The Perpetual Motion Macine, Magic Bullet, Witching Hour and many others.

New release+shirt from ISIS, repress from CAPSULE and way more!

Now this is a re-ighteous update. We've got a beautiful ISIS re-issue, an overdue CAPSULE re-press, an old ISIS t-shirt re-printed and a rock solid slab of other new re-leases & re-stocks for the Robotic Empire - Online Store. Lets get at it:


Its no secret we're big ISIS fans. Have been, still are, will be. Robotic Empire and ISIS have a lengthy history, but even after releasing four remix LPs, two 2xLP albums, one live 2xLP and a massive commemorative box set together, this release still carries serious weight. After being out of print for years, we're proud to re-issue (our personal favorite) ISIS album, Oceanic, as a fine 2xLP release.

Showcasing a band at the height of a monumental transition, Oceanic was and is hailed by many fans as ISIS' landmark album, simultaneously earning widespread critical acclaim. Raising the massive bridge between crushing metal and atmospheric post-rock, ISIS truly came into their own sound on this brilliant sophomore album. Now housed in a heavyweight "tip-on" style gatefold jacket, Oceanic has been carefully re-mastered and re-cut for optimal sound quality.

We are absolutely thrilled to be reissuing this double LP, even despite the band's somewhat recent breakup. Regardless, this album stands the test of time and we're honored to present it to you today. 2000 copies of this have been pressed up, with the following numbers and colors of vinyl:

Absolutely related to this is the uncovering of an ollld ISIS t-shirt design from their archives. Printed in minimal numbers for a Japanese tour many many moons ago, this Oceanic-specific shirt is finally available again (and stateside). Printed on Alstyle shirts (sweatshop free & akin to American Apparel texturally) with a 20% ink discharge, the minimalism of this print perfectly compliments ISIS' abstinence from convention. In an overflowing sea of huge-print shirts, its nice to see something actually utilizing space as a vital design element. Anyway, blathering aside this boils down to a simple, super cozy shirt from way back when. Nice! This is available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.


Completely unrelated but equally awesome is the new re-press of CAPSULE's stellar debut album, Blue. First dropped nearly 3 years ago, this tornado of fury is a powerful combination of grind, screamy hardcore and technical wizardry. A seriously convolutely conglomeration of genres and styles, it actually takes several spins of this monster to truly soak up all the crazy tunage that's going on within. 500 more of this bad mamma jamma were pressed up:

New Robotic Empire release, t-shirt + MASSIVE year-end new items & restocks!

Hope everyone survived the holiday madness okay! We've got such a good update here to end the year with: HEAPS of killer new items and restocks, plus a new Robotic Empire release and label t-shirt....


First and foremost, the newest release we've just dropped is a new full-length from Italian phenoms VANESSA VAN BASTEN, who expertly craft some of the finest tunes that could loosely fall into the ill-monikered "post-rock" sub/sub/sub-genre. Whatever you want to call it doesn't really matter, because VVB deliver the goods on Closer To The Small/Dark/Door. Fifty minutes of inspiring content is the result of years in the boiler room, with comparisons to MOGWAI, SWANS, GODFLESH and JESU close, but not fully just.

VANESSA VAN BASTEN are almost in their own realm with a smattering of genres covered across this truly diverse album. Its a lot to take in, and to encourage people to sink their teeth into this beast of a CD: we're keeping it cheap at just 6 bucks. Besides that label news, we've also got a new Robotic Empire t-shirt that we mentioned earlier in the month but needs further attention. Years ago, our Richmond-based friend (and awesome artist) Ryan McLennan designed an t-shirt image for us with two bears tearing apart a robot dear, which went on to become one of the most popular label-shirts we've made to date. Now, almost exactly 4 years later, we finally printed up the "sequel" to that shirt.


Illustrated at roughly the same time but only just now finally put to print, we've got a "new/old" Ryan McLennan Robotic Empire t-shirt design, and are pretty damn stoked with the results. Hot damn! Not a measly update to end the year on, eh? Another hearty "thank-you" is definitely due to all the folks who've ordered from us this year and continue to come back for more. New/old ROBOTIC EMPIRE t-shirt design, plus lotsa good restocks & new items!

Years ago, our Richmond-based friend (and awesome artist) Ryan McLennan designed an t-shirt image for us with two bears tearing apart a robot dear, which went on to become one of the most popular label-shirts we've made to date. Now, almost exactly 4 years later we've finally printed up the "sequel" to that shirt.


Illustrated at roughly the same time but only just now finally put to print, we've got a "new/old" Ryan McLennan Robotic Empire t-shirt design, and are pretty damn stoked with the results. What's shown here is a mockup of the actual print (photo coming soon) but we've printed this new one in the same color scheme as the first, but with this time a big ass MOOSE smashing apart a robot bear. New FLOOR 2xDVD, new COUGH split LP and way more in the Robotic Empire - Online Store

Wow have we ever been busy packing & shipping the BARONESS "First & Second" collection LP and FLOOR discounted Box Sets! (see previous update for info) So with major thanks is how we wanna start this update; a mega "thank-you" to everyone who's ordered, and to everyone else: please keep em coming! Baroness has been shipping as of last week but please continue to be patient for your orders to arrive, we’re getting slightly backed up at this point. Beyond the chaos that that's ensued, we've managed to round up another awesome batch of new items and restocks...

One big one we'd like to make particular note of is the FLOOR Sight & Seen 2xDVD pre-order that we just put up. Our brethern Chunklet is responsible for the release of this one, and we expect it to be a keeper. This 2xDVD showcases two of the band's "special" reunion shows in which they played with the three main original drummers in a rare experience that isn't likely to be repeated. Three different eras of FLOOR were well documented on this pro-shot/pro-audio DVD, along with archival footage from the band members' vaults, an interview/featurette thing and a second data-disc is also included with a host of other stuff as well. All in all, a top-notch documentary/live collection and having witnessed the shows in person, we're confident the final shebang should be pretty stellar! We're doing PRE-ORDERS on this one (since we don't actually have em yet), but expect them to arrive early/mid December. Related to that is the aforementioned FLOOR Below & Beyond Deluxe Box Set that we recently discounted. To be more specific, during inventory we found some mildly damaged boxes that we can't really sell at full-price... so we've knocked 50 bucks off the top and are selling the remaining ones now. The scuff/damage really is minor, and some more info can be found here.



Besides those key items, we also got a solid fulfillment of COUGH releases from the mighty Forcefield label. These RVA dawgz just hooked up with Relapse, have been doing the "slower" occult doom/sludge thing for a good term now and finally just dropped the long awaited caustic split LP with THE WOUNDED KINGS. Not a ton of distros have this yet, so we're stoked to stock that one along with re-stocks of their debut album on both CD and 2xLP. MAUDLIN OF THE WELL (the pre-KAYO DOT metal band) surprised us all with a new full length last year, and Antithetic just issued that monster on 2xLP. More new releases from Denovali and Hydrophonic, along with some new Josh Lay stuff, plus a good variety of restocks and this turned into a substantial update out of the blue! Here ya go:

New/old release from BARONESS, discounted FLOOR box sets and a KILLER update overall!

Years ago... before Relapse signed em, before getting to open for METALLICA (!), and before folks outside of the underground even really knew about em, a badass band from Georgia (via Virginia) named BARONESS released two EPs aptly titled First and Second. Both were snatched up by a rabidly growing fanbase, and have remained largely out of print since.

The band's now-classic formative material has finally seen a proper reissue, combined together as one deluxe LP. A bit dirtier, punker and more metal than their current rock-infused catchy weirdness, First & Second is an important document in the lineage of this awesome band, and all 38 minutes of music have been completely re-mixed and re-mastered for a much fuller sound than ever before.


Housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket with guitarist/vocalist John Dyer Baizley's elaborate and intricate artwork (spread through the exterior, interior and printed dustsleeve - larger image here), this foil-stamped beaut is now available for pre-order direct from Robotic Empire!

We're really stoked to have witnessed BARONESS literally go from the basement to the arena in just a few years, and are extremely happy to play a small part in this LP. This release has been a LONG time coming, and while we're not the label who put it out (Hyperrealist did), we are pretty much the main mailorder outlet for this bad mamma jamma aside from Hyperrealist themselves. 2000 copies of this beast have been pressed, with 500 on red vinyl, 500 on swirly olive vinyl and 1000 on black vinyl. Somewhat related on several levels is the limited tour pressing of BLACK TUSK's Passage Through Purgatory LP that we scored a few weeks back. Akin to the BARONESS reissue, this 12" was also released by Hyperrealist, has awesome John Baizley artwork, and is primarily available through the Robotic Empire - Online Store. Only us and the band themselves have this available, as its limited to just 350 (signed n' numbered) copies.


The other big addition/alteration to our Online Store this week is the newly discounted FLOOR Below & Beyond Deluxe Vinyl Box Set. To be more specific, during an inventory check we discovered that 13 copies (of less than 50 remaining in total) have some minor damage to the outer box and thus, can't really be sold at full price. We tried to get more boxes to replace these damaged ones, but no extras were left... so for those who were interested in this but dissuaded by the $250 price tag, we've now got a slightly scuffed, slightly cheaper version available.


The damage is very minimal in general, just a slight scrape on the canvas of the outer box (see photo above) on most of these 13 copies. This effects vinyl and CD playability zero, so if you want all the tunes and artwork and everything that comes with the most elaborate project/release we've ever done, now's the chance to nab it at a discounted price. "this is a real ep" (aka, two awesome THOU reviews!)

It's pretty awesome and inspiring when we get sent reviews for a release we didn't even mail out promos for. BIG ups to Ian Wise and Demian Johnston for taking the time to review the THOU, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP all on their own volition. Seriously, much appreciated!

Thou somehow manage to consistently put out fully realized records with obviously thoughtful artwork and meticulous packaging. And they do so at a pace that makes me embarrassed of how slowly my own musical endeavors come together. This release, their most recent 12” EP (it’s four songs, but each side is about 15 minutes, so “EP” is sort of misleading) sums up most things I love about the band. Their earlier releases were heavy, but focused on slow parts with really pretty sounding guitar harmonies. I loved it, but recently they’ve picked up the pace a little and have gotten much, much more dissonant in their sound. This record is no less abrasive than the “Smoke Pigs” track they contributed their split with Black September, but they have some spacey, jammy parts that go well with their sludge aesthetic and help the record flow better as a long player. The tracks here also seem less disjointed than songs on Tyrant or Peasant, both of which had some awkward changes. Of course, the packaging is great as the band partnered with the always diligent Robotic Empire, the only people who may actually be nerdier than Thou about vinyl packaging. -Ian Wise / Razorcake (buy here)

holy shit. this is fantastic. super heavy, super thick and totally amazing sounding. you can really tell they gave a shit in releasing this. i have no idea if this is coming out in any other formats but this is a real ep. so often bands will release a cassette to keep some sort of "cred" going but it ends up being some throw away demos or noise from a band that has no business making noise. this feels real. two heavy and interesting originals on the a side and an instrumental laden with samples and really heavy guitars followed by a Nirvana cover with a killer guitar solo using a phase shifter in a excellent way. the way this sounds is also another reason why having James Plotkin master your releases will never make you regret the affordable price. you just have to hear it. it sounds amazing. the packaging is a double sided screenprinted three panel j card and it looks fantastic. the artwork is great, the music is great. i used to not really dig thou but after the last couple things i have heard i am completely sold. great work. - Demian Johnston / Dead Formats
