ROBOTIC EMPIRE - Online Store Relaunch! New releases & more!

Literally years in the making, this project has been the beast that almost slayed us. Through a label HQ move, one web developer going in rehab, another falling in love, computers and servers crashing, a distribution change and more... the new Robotic Empire Online Store has gone through countless unimaginable hurdles. Seeming absolutely cursed at times, it's almost unbelievable to us that this thing is actually DONE.

But "done" is both sorta inaccurate and an understatement. Inaccurate in the sense that we're still only able to accept orders through PayPal (couldn't get the credit card system ironed out in time for launch), and an understatement in the sense that this Online Store is going to change our entire operation for the better. From your standpoint during ordering, it shouldn't be terribly different... from our standpoint, we'll be far more efficient than ever before... which in turn effects how quickly you get your orders!

Long story short, we're a bit overwhelmed and relieved to finally have this absolutely monstrous project finished and raise a toast to everyone who's helped make this possible.

All that being said, we encourage you to check out our new Robotic Empire Online Store and let us know what you think... especially if you're having any problems. We know there are still some bugs and we're working on a few things still, but if you can't check out or find some sort of major flaw, we do want to hear about it. A lot of testing has been done, but not on every platform or in every different browser imaginable... so please be patient while we iron out the final creases with our new Online Store!

We had full intention of launching this site with the new CAPSULE 12"+CD album Blue available for the first time, but unfortunately we've hit a monstrous manufacturing snag with the CD part of the release so Blue is delayed another week or two at least. The problem with the release is a unique one (some CDs work, others don't) so we have to wait while the plant figures out exactly what the hell happened. Very frustrating, as this thing turned out beautifully (and leaked already) but we promise to have this available the moment it's finally, fully ready.

The ISIS Shades Of The Swarm 12xLP Box Set *should* be available for sale later this week, so keep an eye on our new site. Conspiracy has received their copies and the US parties (us and the band) have received samples that look absolutely amazing. Aaron Turner posted some photos of it on his blog if you want to get a sneak preview on this monstrous release. Keep an eye on our site (and for another announcement) for availability, and please do NOT write us about this. Thanks!


OK so upcoming releases aside, we do have some cool stuff available to celebrate the launch of our new Online Store. Since we started this label by releasing PG.99 records, and re-named it the same way (document #11 being the inaugural "Robotic Empire" release)... we figured it was only appropriate to have PG99 usher in our new webstore as well. We've re-pressed their landmark document #8 album on vinyl, and for the first time in years re-printed some classic and sought-after t-shirt designs.

The "girl with heart", "cow head", "family" and the 2-color "owl" t-shirt designs have all been re-printed, on Cygnus or American Apparel brand t-shirts (very comfy). This is the first time legitimate, band-sanctioned pageninetynine shirts have been printed since the band broke up and we're beyond stoked to finally make these available again. Another celebratory item we've made specifically for this launch is Robotic Empire Sweatpants! That's right, we made freakin' sweatpants of the "Blackmetal Sabbath" image... and we're giving them away! The first 20 people who order over $100 worth of stuff from our new Online Store are entitled to a free pair of sweatpants (if you actually want them). Because we only made 20 of these, we can't totally guarantee what sizes will be available, but if you order over $100 worth of stuff just add a note to your order during checkout (there is a "notes" box) letting us know what size you wear. These are available on a first come, first serve basis!

Along with all of the Online Store renovations, we finally have a somewhat functional website again ( www.roboticempire.com ). It's pretty stripped down to say the least, but the discography page is up to date and took forever to compile.

ROBOTIC EMPIRE FIRE SALE: $5 CDs for all standalone label titles (plus more)

Here it is, the final celebration and fire sale for Robotic Empire’s current (ie, old) Online Store. Until the launch of our new Online Store, we’re offering all standalone Robotic Empire CDs for $5 apiece. This is for USA customers only, since our existing international setup sucks with our current (and now royally outdated) Online Store. Canadians can partake too, but ya’ll gotta cough up $8 apiece.

There’s one catch though, you have to spend a minimum of $10 if you partake in this fire sale. That means you have to buy 2 CDs… or 1 CD and a 7" or LP or shirt or whatever raises the order value to at least $10. This is so we don’t totally lose our asses with this, as we absorb all PayPal and postage fees within our current Online Store.

Yep, $5 CDs postage paid by us. Sound like a good deal? This is a win-win situation, as we need to make room for the incoming Capsule LP+CDs and Isis box set, both just a few weeks away now. That’s all we can say for now as there won’t be pre-orders or holds or anything… but we’ll be launching these titles for sale when the new Online Store is done. We’re busting our asses to finish this absolutely mammoth project, but it’s almost done now so keep an eye out for that major update from us in the coming weeks.

GHASTLY CITY SLEEP vinyl now available!! +RED SPAROWES, TORCHE re-presses!

Low and behold, the GHASTLY CITY SLEEP vinyl is finally done! Only like 9 months late, what? Better late that never birthing this beast though, as this self-titled debut turned out beautiful on vinyl. Two jackets printed up at Ross Ellis (with a thick spot varnish on the outer one) house the fine vinyl made by Pirates Press. This is the first job we've hand-assembled in years, and it was definitely worth having a billion extra boxes in-house for, as the end-result is pretty stellar! We made 1165 of these total, with the total pressing info as such:

* 275 on VANILLA (opaque cream with a tiny bit of white splatter)
* 275 on SMORE (opaque brown mixed with opaque cream)
* 275 on COGNAC (metallic gold mixed with translucent green)
* 210 on BLACK
* 130 (rejected) TEST PRESSES with alternate packaging

The test press version is only being sold along with the regular album, and these are now available through the Robotic Empire Online Store!

GHASTLY CITY SLEEP is mainly comprised of Virginia-to-NYC transplants who've converted their audio pallet from former chaos (CITY OF CATERPILLAR, MAJORITY RULE) into blissful rock-based ambience. Channeling the ghosts of SIGUR ROS and MOGWAI's past blended with powerful guitars, keys, varied percussion and just about everything in between. The multitude of layers involved here are accompanied by a warm, haunting array of vocals... all helping GHASTLY CITY SLEEP craft simply epic songs. The TORCHE Self-Titled Reissue 12" has been re-pressed as the first press is now sold out. Touring their asses off with MOGWAI, ISIS, JESU and BARONESS since its release definitely hasn't hurt, so we pressed up 1000 more! Pressing info is as follows for this second press:

This new version is a much more accurate representation of the band with an even heavier (and clearer) mix than the original, also containing an all new bonus track originally recorded during the initial tracking (but only recently receiving some absolutely epic vocal treatment) and expanded artwork.

It sure doesn't feel like it, but it's been three years since TORCHE's eponymous debut, and now they return with a blistering new release fittingly titled, well, In Return. This monstrous, seven-song, 20-minute EP pushes TORCHE's musical extremes even further as the "poppy" songs are far more catchy, and the "heavy" songs are infinitely more crushing. The band continues to explore every side of their multi-faceted personas, presenting their darkest, heaviest and most infectious work to date!

And finally, the CAPSULE debut album Blue will be entering production next week as well. The artwork and master are both done and this album is going to be pressed as both formats together (12" + CD). MASSIVE Robotic Empire Online Store Updates, plus ISIS "Panopticon" 2xLP re-press!

Good god, this update took us TWO FULL DAYS to assemble & upload, and a solid month worth of amassing stuff to bring you what is probably the Robotic Empire Online Store's biggest update... to date! Over 140 new items have been added to the webstore this weekend and a whole lot of exclusive colored vinyl and other stuff unique to our site (ie, no other distros carry many of these new items). We dug deep for this one folks, so please take a minute to go over the massive list of new CDs, LPs, 7"s, t-shirts and other stuff we've brought into our possession over the past month, which can be found below.


First off though, we re-pressed the ISIS Panopticon 2xLP again. Yeah we know, it's not the box set and how many different pressings of this stuff are there now? Well, this is the fourth press of the US version of Panopticon and we did it a little differently this time around, making the colored vinyl the less-limited of the pressing. We also hearkened back to the very first pressing (nearly three years ago) of opaque orange and opaque blue for inspiration, using the same color schemes but with different results. So we present to you a "deep sea" blue and "exploding" orange vinyl as well.

In other Robotic Empire Online Store news, Level Plane conveniently stopped being mad at us after 29north shut down and we were finally able to stock up on the bulk of their awesome titles... including a veritable shit-ton of colored vinyl for all the collector fiends amongst us. Also with the closing of 29north brought us a lot of stock from the labels they once distributed, including most of the catalog releases from Hyperrealist (BARONESS, GET RAD, LORDS, etc) and Shock Value (colored vinyl abound, yes)!

TORCHE's In Return 10"+CD release sold out insanely fast but there were some manufacturing problems with the re-press, so we're still a solid 2 weeks away from having more copies of it. In the meantime, we recommend you get your weedy-music fill with the debut CANNABIS CORPSE album Blunted At Birth, just released on vinyl! Local legends in the making Forcefield Records made 400 of these on "stoned eyeball" colored vinyl. This release is so good, and definitely comes highly recommended!

We've also decided (after several extensive OCD-like complaints) to ship all of our large-format vinyl OUTSIDE of the jackets from now on. If you don't want your order(s) shipped this way... too bad: we've already removed about 90% of our stock from the jackets! In all seriousness though, this should prevent damage during shipment better than ever. We want this mailorder operation to work as smoothly as possible for both parties involved (us and you), so we will continue to improve our shipping methods in attempts to get your package(s) to your doorstep as quickly and safely as possible. So it's been a while since Robotic Empire made a new t-shirt and what other way to show our undying love for drugs and metal than to combine forces with Richmond's own CANNABIS CORPSE!?! Yep, our incredible death metal brethren have allowed us to print up this brutal new four-color t-shirt with spot-on artwork by another local Richmond artist, Jim Callahan. This new shirt truly celebrates the dangerous nature of CANNABIS CORPSE's bud-monster fan base, as two are featured together on this shirt, rolling up captured human beings into delicious joints! Of course, we mean "tobacco cigarettes" for the narcs out there.

ISIS - Panopticon 2xLP re-press now available! +Robotic Empire Online Store updates galore

Wow, did we ever get swamped with tons of orders for the new TORCHE EP, the In Return 10"+CD (together)! Major thanks to everyone who's kept us busy over the last few weeks... but because we need constant chaos, here's another Robotic Empire Online Store update for ya!


First and foremost, the long-awaited repress of ISIS' landmark Panopticon album on 2xLP has finally commenced! This incredible full-length has been out of print for a couple of years now, and to celebrate the occasion we have re-released this beast on several colors of vinyl (of course). 2000 more copies have been made, 1100 of which are on black. The other 900 copies are divided evenly over three colors of vinyl (300 copies each) of a Cokebottle Blue & Clear mix w/ Silver Smoke, a Half Clear / Half Cokebottle Green w/ Splatter, and a Grey / Silver mix that looks like an awesome marble gray! The color combinations compliment the gatefold album art nicely, and we're pretty stoked to finally have this thing back in print!

For those who didn't get a chance to check out Panopticon the first time around, it really has been a defining release for ISIS as it is their third full-length, and was recorded directly after the band transplanted from Boston to Los Angeles. The melodic and mellow moments of past are seen explored much further, and the heavier elements are absolutely crushing as well. In hindsight, it's the perfect transition between the pummeling nature of its monstrous predecessor Oceanic, and the more atmospheric elements of their latest album In The Absence Of Truth. Again, we're really pleased to have this back in print as it's one of our favorite ISIS releases to date and we're proud to make it available again!

New releases from TORCHE, GHASTLY CITY SLEEP, ISIS and more!!!

Hot on the heels of the PYGMY LUSH Bitter River CD / LP / T-Shirt pre-order we announced last week (click here to see the post) we've received a massive amount of CDs and vinyl we need to announce as now available!

The first major new addition to the Robotic Empire Online Store is the absolutely incredible debut album from Brooklyn's GHASTLY CITY SLEEP. This self-titled effort is seriously leaps and bounds beyond anything the seasoned members have created in the past, and we really couldn't be happier with how this debut turned out! Here is what we wrote about this album for stores, distros, etc:

"It isn't often new music surfaces that is so deeply intense, just hearing it may induce instant nostalgia; the ancient sensations you get when the seasons change, a vivid dream involving the first person you ever loved. In the same way that select few can simultaneously achieve dark and uplifting songs, the Brooklyn-based quartet known as GHASTLY CITY SLEEP hone in on some immensely powerful elements to deliver a commanding, breathtaking first offering. On the GHASTLY CITY SLEEP debut, four tracks span thirty minutes... and when it's done, you actually feel different. To say it's "moving" is an understatement with what Robotic Empire safely proclaims to be one of the most groundbreaking releases we've ever been a part of.

While two pieces nearly reach the six-minute mark and the other two eclipse nine, the whole offering flows with a smooth liquidity, creating one solidified, captivating body of work. The four young men involved in GHASTLY CITY SLEEP don't stick to one instrument long, as the entire collective can be found playing everything from guitars, keys, various percussion and just about everything in between. The multitude of layers involved here are accompanied by a warm yet haunting array of vocals, all helping to produce this simply epic debut."

The first track from this release, "Ice Creaks", can be heard online here. Although not exactly indicative of their sound, it's worth mentioning that GHASTLY CITY SLEEP's debut recording features members of and/or contributions by past and present members of GREGOR SAMSA, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, MAJORITY RULE, KILARA, KAYO DOT and more. This recording is truly a horse of a different color though, with comparisons to SIGUR ROS, MUM, STEREOLAB, LOW, MOGWAI and SLOWDIVE not unjust.

The CD version of this album is now finished, in house and ready to ship out (click here for an animation of the deluxe packaging). This fortunately hasn't leaked online (so far) as the promo copies haven't shipped yet, so the only way to hear this thing is to actually buy it... a novel idea, right? The vinyl isn't being offered as a pre-order as the print isn't in production just yet, but we've got test presses already so the vinyl should be in motion very soon! This won't be in stores until October 16th so if you want to hear GHASTLY CITY SLEEP, this is the way... or live of course. There is only one scheduled performance right now, but more will be announced ASAP...

Yes we've heard "nobody buys CDs anymore", but the packaging for this is truly next-level with a clear PVC insert creating a slightly cloudy white effect when you look through the jewel case to the truly massive poster fold-out. Yep, this is the biggest poster fold-out the manufacturers can even make, and this double-sided insert has a huge painting on one side and an insanely-detailed, block-press-inspired flipside with all lyrics and linear notes included (something you won't get if you just download this). Long story short, for $10 you not only support an independent band and label, but also get a truly impressive release both in audio and visual!


Next up in the truly MASSIVE new release department is the long-awaited EP from TORCHE!!! It sure doesn't feel like it, but it's been three years since TORCHE's eponymous debut, and now they return with a blistering new release fittingly titled, well, In Return. This monstrous, seven-song, 20-minute EP pushes TORCHE's musical extremes even further as the "poppy" songs are far more catchy, and the "heavy" songs are infinitely more crushing. The band continues to explore every side of their multi-faceted personas, presenting their darkest, heaviest and most infectious work to date!


In Return is also Robotic Empire's most obsessively ridiculous packaging yet; a beautiful full-color John Baizley design as a gatefold 10" jacket with a printed innersleeve and a die-cut that holds the companion CD in place, all housed in a thick mylar bag with a two-color sticker. Yep, this deluxe colored vinyl comes with a musically-identical CD counterpart so you don't have to deal with any digital download hassles if you simply want this thing on your computer. However, you'll definitely appreciate the physical nature of this true beast once you see and hear TORCHE's absolutely mammoth new release, as this truly is the most over the top packaging we've done to date! We even got our pressing plant to do some crazy colored vinyl options that have NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE! Yep, the "planets" version (or "petals", or "easter eggs"?? see below!) is some first-time-ever shit, and cost extra to do since it was labor-intensive to make... so we're charging a bit more for them.

This beast won't be in stores until September 18th (in the USA, a bit later in Europe) and we've gotta limit the mail orders of this one to non-European countries only as Rock Action is releasing this one in Europe too. The recording for this was expensive (it sounds fucking incredible) and the packaging costs were through the roof so we gotta charge $14-$16 for this crazy package, but that does include postage in the USA. PYGMY LUSH "Bitter River" LP+CD+T-Shirt PRE-ORDER! & loads of Online Store updates!!

Hell has apparently froze over twice in a row here as the PYGMY LUSH debut album Bitter River is actually almost upon us AND Robotic Empire's doing another pre-order special too! It only took us a full year to wrangle the artwork from the band but this beast is actually finished (CD) and in production (vinyl)! In reaction to this truly surprising event, we tie dyed the fuck out of some sweet PYGMY LUSH t-shirts in blissful celebration. No shit:


Yep, the first handful of folks who pre-order this album (and want a t-shirt) can get a unique and totally badass tie-dye t-shirt along with the CD or LP of Bitter River. How exactly is a purple tie-dye t-shirt "badass"? Well, the colors complement the layout freakishly well AND it's got a scarecrow clutching a whisky bottle for good measure.

Not into the whole tie-dye thing?
