PYGMY LUSH - Bitter River cassette OUT NOW + big webstore update!

We've been dubbing the hell out of tapes lately, and hot on the heels of the limited LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE cassette comes the debut album from PYGMY LUSH many months before it's actual CD/LP "street date" (which we don't know yet cause we *still* don't have artwork even though the master has been done for months!!). Long story short, the band needed something to sell on their current tour so we knocked out a pile of tapes real fast.

This album is the culmination of every influence these fine young men have ever had, all wrapped around each other to create what essentially sounds like a seasoned band covering a solid mixtape. Sterling, Virginia's PYGMY LUSH debut with Bitter River, 16 tracks that span pretty much the entire underground/independent music spectrum... ranging from tracks that sound like THE BLACK HEART PROCESSION to BORN AGAINST to TOM WAITS to THE JESUS LIZARD to BOB DYLAN to ONE EYED GOD PROPHECY to NIRVANA to ... you get the point, right? This is an incredibly varied album but it works surprisingly well, as the five fellows of PYGMY LUSH have cut their teeth on some of Northern Virginia's most influential punk/hardcore bands of the last decade or so including PG.99, MAJORITY RULE, MALADY, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, SAIL, HISSING CHOIR and about a million more.

Bitter River is a FULL length album that literally fills the A side of this C63 tape, while the B side is essentially a 25-minute "hidden song" that only further expands upon what PYGMY LUSH is able to pull off. While this isn't exactly how we envisioned the initial release of this album, we're really fucking amped on it and couldn't be much more stoked to deliver it to you. This high-quality black cassette comes with a lyric insert, full-color cover (printed by Imprint) and is overall nicely done. So take that tape adapter out of your car stereo, dust off your ancient walkman cause this album rules and we highly recommend checking it out!

We lied, another Robotic Empire Online Store update! Actually our web developer got strep throat and it's time we unleashed another update while our crunk new Online Store is being finished up. And guess what... a new release too! This one is a limited cassette from Florida's LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE... shit is beast! Here's what we wrote about the CDep version (released by Kiss Of Death):

LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE is a fine example of Florida's consistent tendency for innovative heavy music. Years prior to the world of "metalcore" (or even the very word), the members of LYOF paid their dudes in OMEGA MAN and REVERSAL OF MAN, merging elements of raging metal with a strong foundation in hardcore punk. Not crossover thrash exactly, but also unlike any of the "metal" or "hardcore" bands at the time. These bands lived amongst the underappreciated innovators of what would eventually become a very popular and widespread sound.

Years later the same people that helped expand our own tastes of metal and hardcore have regrouped in LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE, an absolutely pummeling quartet that we couldn't be much happier to work with. The fusion of heavy guitar work with a fierce rhythm section (including a healthy amount of double-bass) and gruff n' burly vocals all make for a truly interesting listen. This is the type of band that really show their years of hard work in the underground, and it's not surprising you hear similar styles in popular groups going today (ie, CONVERGE, LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON, etc.) And that's not to say that these bands were influenced directly by the brutal dudes of LIGHT YOURSELF ON FIRE, but undoubtedly a whole new generation of musicians has indirectly taken from their groundwork. This is a great history lesson revisited, and we're stoked to present it to you. Check out some MP3s from this crucial debut:

The band's copies all are glow-in-the-dark, and the first 26 people who order will also get this version. Both look sweet, just one glows and one doesn't. MASSIVE Robotic Empire Online Store updates! (new TORCHE LP, lots of rare OOP stuff, etc.)

Hello again, this is most likely the last update from Robotic Empire before our new webstore/website launches. We've been busting our asses to get this up and are very excited about the progress, but have a huge update for you here in the meantime. We won't be doing the "postage paid" thing with the new store (it's killing us), so this is pretty much your last chance to get stuff from us and not pay shipping costs. TORCHE just got home from a fucking KILLER tour alongside ISIS, JESU, INTRONAUT and more. We cranked out the fully remixed n' remastered vinyl reissue of their "Self Titled" album just in time for this monster tour and seriously, this thing turned out incredible. Pushing "full color" printing to its absolute limits, this deluxe LP comes with a glorious gatefold jacket, thick printed inner sleeve and is available on 6 different colors of vinyl. Yep, we made a shitload of colors for this one to match the rainbow of colors on the stunning gatefold jacket, and they turned out pretty much AWESOME. Pressing info won't be made available for the time being as we're doing a torturous little experiment here. Yep, we want you to pick up whatever color LP(s) you favor based on color alone (and not pressing quantities). Yeah yeah, we suck... we know. Get over it and enjoy this insanely heavy new mix. These are available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store. The CD version of this won't be available until the summer and no other distros or anybody has this LP either, it's just available from us and the band. For those unfortunate souls who haven't heard the mighty TORCHE yet, they're basically the heaviest band going right now... no lie. Absolutely crushing, they have HUGE sound with the patented "bomb string" assault for added relentlessness. This fully re-mixed and re-mastered version of their debut full-length is absolutely mammoth in sound, with insanely catchy riffs and actual harmonized singing over top it all. Total hessian heaven, and easily one of the most intense bands we've ever worked with. This deluxe reissue has an all new bonus track too, which totally fucking kills it. So there's the skinny on that... and we'll be "nice" and release the pressing info in a couple weeks. A few months down the line the long-awaited "In Return" EP will finally see the light of day. It's definitely worth the wait as John Baizley's artwork for it is pretty much incredible and the final mix/master is sounding unbelievably heavy. More info on that will be available as it comes closer to completion... two tracks have been posted online here though.

TORCHE Announces New Releases, Tour Dates

Miami, Florida's TORCHE are geared up for a busy year, with several new releases planned, heavy time on the road and the recording of their sophomore album. First and foremost, TORCHE will join ISIS and JESU for a February/March tour spanning most of the south-east and east coast. (see below for dates)

A special re-mixed version of TORCHE's acclaimed Self-Titled debut full-length will first be made available on this tour, as a deluxe gatefold vinyl LP. The entire album has been re-mixed from the ground up and now features an additional track originally recorded during the same session, but only recently receiving some seriously epic vocal treatment. The CD version of this will hit stores later this summer through Rock Action in Europe, and as a 2xCD in North America through Robotic Empire featuring both the new remixed version as disc 1 and the untreated original mix as disc 2.

Around the same time Robotic Empire will issue the long-delayed "In Return" EP, which was recently completed through Southern Noise Studios in Miami and mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East in Boston. Originally planned to be a two-song 7", the six track EP will be issued as a 10"+CD... which is to say that the release will have both digital and analog formats available together. This was done to ensure that the intense artwork created by John Baizley will mainly be experienced in the large gatefold 10" format. A newly mastered song from this release has been posted online and can be heard on the band's Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/TORCHE

Following the tour with ISIS and JESU, the band will return to Miami to put the finishing touches on their sophomore album, which will be recorded by Kurt Ballou at Godcity in Boston during late May/early June. TORCHE will tour both to and from Boston around this time, playing with some seriously incredible groups on this jaunt. Howdy again folks! We've had a crazy amount of new stuff and restocks arrive in the past 2 weeks... including some super hard to find items, rare colored vinyl, new t-shirts, weird cassettes and more.


One of the more notable packages (er... multitude of packages) that arrived was the entire back-stock of CDs and LPs from the Rhode Island label City Of Hell and the bulk of back-stock CDs from Florida's now-defunct label Urchin. What this translates to is that Robotic Empire is now the only distributor with the old AS THE SUN SETS "Each Individual Voice" CDs and LPs, as well as the only distributor who has the ATSS/DAUGHTERS side-project CRIPPLER CROSS FACE and the highly under-distributed opus by heavy/stoner/madmen RAILSPLITTER. ISIS - In The Absense Of Truth 2xLP out now + new shirts, etc!!!

OK folks, after much patience on your part and the (finally subsided) holiday mayhem, Robotic Empire is rightly stoked to announce the availability of ISIS' new full-length In The Absence Of Truth on vinyl in the 2xLP format. Although the European and Japanese releases of this have already hit the market (along with some of the US pressing through the band), we are expecting this to be fairly hectic as ISIS' fans are pretty freakin' rabid. Because of this, we will do our best to answer all questions in this post and ask you please refrain from writing us unless we haven't covered your question/problem here. Without further blabbering, here is our description of this stunning album along with a bunch of photos, pressing info, ordering information and more:

The logical expansion of ISIS' multiple personalities yield In The Absence Of Truth, their latest monster full-length. It only makes sense that the 'atmospheric' parts are even more haunting (yet, uplifting) and the 'heavy' parts are even more brutal and crushing. However, it's hardly an album of polar opposites, with the fluidity only achieved by a band who's been consistently developing like this for nearly a decade now. The increased amount of actual singing really makes a difference on the more mellow moments, but widespread experimentation with new elements reaches far beyond the vocals here. Appropriate usage of unique tones, leads and overall surprising song-structures culminate with nine tracks of ISIS' most impressive work to date. In The Absence Of Truth really is an astounding album, with a maturity displayed that leaps from their past into amazing uncharted waters of heaviness. Robotic Empire is honored to supply this gatefold, double-LP vinyl edition of ISIS' latest masterpiece. Limited to roughly 3000 total copies, here is the pressing info:

GHASTLY CITY SLEEP Announce Debut Album, Post Preview Track

Robotic Empire's latest addition to the roster, Brooklyn's GHASTLY CITY SLEEP have finished the recording for their eponymous debut, scheduled for release early this spring. Over four tracks (that span 30 minutes) GHASTLY CITY SLEEP combine the finest elements of shoegazer and ambiance along with an acute penchant for melody to create an absolutely stunning array of material. While two pieces nearly reach the six-minute mark and the other two eclipse nine, the whole offering flows with a smooth liquidity, creating one solidified, captivating body of work that easily becomes one of the most exciting and groundbreaking releases we've been a part of to date.

The four young men involved in GHASTLY CITY SLEEP don't keep to one instrument long, as the entire collective can be found playing everything from guitars, keys, various percussion and just about everything in between. The multitude of layers involved here are accompanied by a warm yet haunting array of vocals, all helping to produce this simply epic debut.

The group (with current and former members of CITY OF CATERPILLAR, GREGOR SAMSA and MAJORITY RULE) formed back in 2005 after transplanting from Richmond, VA but only just finished the recordings, completed via Alex Aldi at Gigantic Studios in NYC (ASOBI SEKSU, THE FALL, etc.). GHASTLY CITY SLEEP have posted a sample song, "Ice Creaks", (featuring Mia from KAYO DOT) for listeners to preview prior to the CD and LP releases come March 27th, 2007. ULTRA DOLPHINS "Mar" vinyl now available +Robotic Empire wallets, more!

It's been a long time coming, but ULTRA DOLPHINS' debut album MAR is finally upon us, and the vinyl for this beast turned out pretty freakin' crucial! While the CD is now available in stores and distros across the land, the vinyl won't really surface elsewhere until November 21st... so we're the only place to pick up this thing right now. We made 1200 copies of MAR on vinyl, and couldn't be too much happier with the results. Here's what we wrote about the album for those who don't know about it yet:

New & exclusive DAUGHTERS t-shirt, designed by JOHN BAIZLEY!

Hello internet- it may have be a few years overdue, but we've finally made a DAUGHTERS t-shirt for you! To make up for lost time, we had our favorite artist JOHN BAIZLEY (BARONESS, TORCHE, PIG DESTROYER, etc.) knock out this amazing design for us in our continuing series with him. It's a MASSIVE 16" tall by 8" wide print with three colors of ink (white, yellow and orange). This thing really did turn out beautifully, especially because we had these printed on 100% cotton Jerzees-brand black t-shirts.

Apparently the 100% cottons hold detail better than the 50/50s and this shirt is pretty much living proof of that! Per usual, this t-shirt is exclusively available through us, and we've uploaded some pretty large graphics to let you see the fine details of this beast, but keep in mind that these are digital camera photos... this monster looks even better in real life.
