Online Store Updates (new limited vinyl, CDs, cassettes, etc.)

This week at Robotic Empire we've got a slew of great restocks along with some sweet new items we think folks will be stoked on. Magic Bullet has been releasing some top notch stuff lately and we've finally got those items in stock. ROMANCE OF YOUNG TIGERS, AUGHRA and LYMBYC SYSTYM are all worth checking out as these bands have made some beautifully packaged music. COLISEUM's standout Goddamage EP has been repressed on a killer 2x7" and we picked up some of those on colored vinyl along with a new color version of their blistering latest LP, No Salvation. Our most recent release, GODS & QUEENS, was also released on cassette by Dead Format and the packaging on this one is pretty sweet as it's been both hand-screened and branded!

Continuing along with our love for the band THOU, we scored some copies of the To Carry A Stone 7"s from Noxious Noise. This thing is intense, as it comes housed in a silkscreened black cardstock sleeve with silver ink and an 8 page booklet attached inside. Also note the recent Viking Warlock t-shirt we printed up for THOU, one of the most brutal blackened doom/sludge bands going right now! We also managed to unearth some copies of the ancient TOWERS / US FUNK TEAM split 7" that's been unavailable for years now. For restocks this week we know lost of people will be glad to hear that we secured some of the last copies of VERSE EN COMA's "Rialto" 10"+CD from our distributor! We've got about 150 copies on black vinyl so get them while they last, as we don't know if/when they'll be available again.

Exclusive THOU shirt now available, plus TORCHE vinyl & more...

We're stoked to present an exclusive t-shirt from our burly southern brothers in THOU. This Viking Warlock design in appropriate grimness features almost-black ink on a slightly faded black t-shirt, so from the day you slip it on it looks like your favorite old faded shirt from years ago. It's just as comfortable too, printed on a super fine-threaded Tultex brand t-shirt. This design is "exclusive" in the sense that no other online shops have this, but the band should have it on tour with them as well!

The front has THOU's gnarly bat logo with a crucial viking underneath, and the back has pillaging imagery with the explicit mantra at the bottom: "Eat. Fight. Fuck". One of our favorite active heavy/doom/sludge bands going right now, to us THOU are legends in the making. The photo above is of the front and back of this beast. This is available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store in sizes Youth Large (XS) through Double Extra Large (XXL).

We are also pleased to announce that TORCHE's Self-Titled Reissue 12" has been pressed for a third time and is now available again after a few months of unavailability. This time around instead of applying a sticker to the bag, we had them print on the bag itself... and although the difference is subtle, it's nerdworthy enough for us to be psyched on it! Another difference with this pressing is that we opted to try the "planets" effect on one color version, albeit a little different. Small triangles of colored vinyl were inserted into the vinyl itself and the effect turned out pretty cool... and varied. A few examples can be seen in the photo above (along with a couple of our dogs). A slightly blurry but semi-hilarious closeup photo can be seen here (and at the bottom of this update). This (and literally tons of other TORCHE stuff) is available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store.

Besides that trippy triangle planet "pyramids" version, we also made four other color vinyl variations in attempts of complimenting the myriad colors in the gatefold jacket's artwork. The pressing info for this third press is as follows:

* 200 on AUTUMN (red/orange/yellow tri-blend)
* 200 on DESERT (half translucent orange / half beer)
* 200 on ELECTRIC BLUE (dark blue / light blue swirl)
* 200 on PYRAMIDS (cokebottle green with small triangle inserts)
* 200 on SALMON (opaque pink / clear swirl)

If you've read all of this so far you are probably already familiar with the behemoth that is TORCHE, but in the off chance that this is the first time you're reading about them, here is the formal description we wrote for this Self-Titled Reissue album:

Once described as "stoner pop", Miami quartet TORCHE could just as awkwardly be called "doom pop" or "thunder rock"... but what all these clumsy words boil down to is simultaneously one of the catchiest AND heaviest bands to ever grace the worlds of metal, indie and underground music in general. Sound like hyperbole? TORCHE actually has their own patented "bomb string" tuning which is literally unparalleled in heavy music (past or present) and they use it liberally on this, their self-titled debut full-length album.

Easily the heaviest record Robotic Empire had released to date, never has a "metal" album existed quite like the mind-blowing debut release from TORCHE. Hinted at by members’ former group FLOOR, truly anthemic, triumphant and absolutely massive heavy metal has never been this undeniably catchy! With gloriously sung, harmonized and soaring vocal arrangements accompanying the most monolithic riffs of modern times, TORCHE reaches to push the envelope and then engulfs it in flames. Call it "stoner pop"or "exquisite brutality"... call it whatever you want. In the end, TORCHE are still a major force to fuck with, and undeniable leaders of an incredible new style of heavy music.

This is the deluxe, fully re-mixed and re-mastered edition of TORCHE’s debut album... which has been completely reworked from the ground up due to the band’s overall dissatisfaction with the original release. This new version is a much more accurate representation of the band with an even heavier (and clearer) mix than the original, also containing an all new bonus track originally recorded during the initial tracking (but only recently receiving some absolutely epic vocal treatment). Robotic Empire is genuinely proud to re-release this incredible album... the vinyl edition having a beautifully appropriate gatefold jacket, full color printed inner sleeve and limited colored vinyl. This is also our first release with printwork directly on the bag itself! Enjoy!

The song "Mentor" from this album can be heard online here.

GODS & QUEENS untitled 12" pre-orders, plus Online Store updates!

We can't rest on our laurels for long, so hot on the heels of releasing HELMS ALEE's Night Terror and TORCHE's second pressing of Meanderthal, we are very pleased to announce that the GODS & QUEENS untitled debut album is now available for pre-order!

For those unfamiliar with this relatively new group, the two songs posted should show a bit of the variety this trio has cooked up... but all seven songs on this sound pretty different from one another. Here's the formal description we awkwardly conjured for this thing:

GODS & QUEENS debut with washes of reverb and echoes of shoegazer's catchier moments. There's mature inconsistency here... or in other words: fast songs, slow songs and one droning psychedelic blissfest. To semi-appropriately quote the band, "GODS & QUEENS is a three piece band from Brooklyn/Philadelphia who tried in vain to blatantly steal riffs and song patterns from some of their favorite bands (like HOOVER, LUNGFISH, JUNE OF 44, SPACEMAN 3 and the like)... but failed in every attempt. Instead here are seven songs that resemble nothing of who or what they were intended to be. A few have said it sounds like a low rent, super depressed version of FUGAZI, or QUICKSAND with out the start stop timing." What this boils down to is that GODS & QUEENS is playing an abnormally dark blend of indie/shoegazer/whatever-people-want-to-call-it.

It might(/might not) also be worth mentioning that Jamie Getz from this band also used to be in VERSOMA, GET FUCKED, and LICKGOLDENSKY... amongst others. Robin Fowler also played in the later incarnation of VERSOMA and we have no idea what Ben Roysdon's history is, as the guy is an enigma.

Not shipping out until about a week from now, we do have the records in-house now... so we are taking pre-orders. This turned out pretty damn sweet, and we made this as both the CD and vinyl LP formats package together in one gatefold sleeve. This is our first split label release in a many many years, but we're stoked to work with longtime Euro-bros at Adagio830 / Bis Aufs Messer to present the GODS & QUEENS debut to you. Folks overseas in Europe should pick this jam up from them, but otherwise feel free to grab this now in the Robotic Empire Online Store.

This first pressing is all on colored vinyl, pressed in the following quantities:
* 425 copies on translucent purple (Robotic Empire / USA version)
* 425 copies on translucent orange (Adagio830 / Europe version)
* 150 copies on half clear / half translucent orange (band version)

Amped to get out there and finally tour a bit, GODS & QUEENS have some pretty kickass shows scheduled:

10/05 - Bethlehem, PA @ The Burners - w/ Weston
10/14 - New York, NY @ Rogan Store - w/ Fucked Up (as part of their 12-hour show)
10/17 - Philadelphia, PA @ Pilam - w/ Monotonix
10/26 - Brooklyn, NY @ Europa - w/ Young Widows, Tombs
10/27 - Philadelphia, PA @ The Barbary - w/ Young Widows
10/28 - Baltimore, MD @ Talking Head - w/ Young Widows, The Wayward

10/30 - Washington, DC @ The Girl Cave - w/ The Well

Robotic Empire - Online Store

TORCHE - Meanderthal 12" 2nd press, HELMS ALEE 12" & more!!!

OK folks it's that time again: a new vinyl update from Robotic Empire! We were unfortunately the last folks to be selling the first pressing of TORCHE's gargantuan new release Meanderthal due to circumstances beyond our control, and we're towards the back of the line on the second press as well. But we're still totally amped on how this beast turned out, and are pleased to announce that the second pressing of Meanderthal is now available in the Robotic Empire Online Store.

This second pressing was made on six colors, ludicrously named the following:

* CHERRY BURST - 400 copies
* ICE STORM - 200 copies
* LIZARD SKIN - 400 copies
* MAGMA - 400 copies
* ROCKSLIDE - 200 copies
* TAPWATER - 400 copies

The reason for these names is because when backlit, the records look almost completely different... and sound exactly the same! The same great tunes are still jam-packed into this vinyl, and we're really stoked on how this pressing turned out. For anyone still unfamiliar with what we're talking about here, here's our always-hyperbolic description for this album:

Can a band be absolutely crushing yet legendarily anthemic... at the same time? Miami’s TORCHE have not only figured this out, they’ve mastered it. Their third release, Meanderthal, is simultaneously oppressive and powerfully uplifting. Like that invincible feeling you get when love is new, mixed with the heaviest soundtrack imaginable. TORCHE’s gargantuan return to their patented megaheavy pop ’n roll streamlines their form into brief and precise slabs of song-writing brilliance. Prepare to headbang while singing along at the top of your collapsed lungs, as Meanderthal surpasses all groundwork laid by TORCHE’s self-titled debut and last year’s In Return EP. Copious hooks abound, psychedelic swarms of drone weave amongst riff-wizardry... while the sheer heavyness is downright overwhelming. Robotic Empire goes huge on their most ludicrously elaborate packaging yet, while TORCHE absolutely level the earth with their finest work to date.

* Several MP3s from Meanderthal can be heard on TORCHE's Myspace page.

A few other new items and restocks have also been added to our Online Store this week, with last week's update following below...

We also just recently dropped the new HELMS ALEE full-length debut, Night Terror, which we are mildly afraid of being criminally overlooked. This band is definitely on the next-level as far as merging heavyness and melody... almost akin to TORCHE but with a very distinct, different spin for sure. The CD version of this album was also released by our big bro's at Hydra Head, and we're pumped to get to release the vinyl for such a crucial band. This is available now in our Online Store, and here's our description of this bad mofo...:

Seattle has been no stranger to dirty, heavy bands... but newcomers HELMS ALEE propel the city’s longrunning music reputation to the next level of awesomeness. Marrying the best parts of grunge and the rock trinity of punk, indie and stoner varieties, this powerful trio lay waste with their debut album Night Terror. Ten tracks that run the gamut of psychedelic grit, western-ish drugged out drone jams, delicate melodic passages and most of all, ferociously crushing heavy rock. These truly hypnotic songs also benefit from a healthy balance of soaring vocals into the triumphant chorus of male and female yells. The sheer magnitude of said awesomeness is pretty incredible for a relatively new band, but years in the trial-by-fire underground and a band member building their own amps only ups the ante. Add in percussion unafraid of crashing and clanging like a tornado and you’ve got a thunderous debut of shoegazer bliss mixed perfectly with hessian heaven. HELMS ALEE are poised to level with their debut longplayer, and Robotic Empire is proud to present it to you.

* Several MP3s from Night Terror can be heard on HELMS ALEE's Myspace page.

It's also worth noting that members of HELMS ALEE have previously done time in HARKONEN & THESE ARMS ARE SNAKES and currently LOZEN! Night Terror was printed on very heavy reverse-board cardstock, and pressed in the following quantities:

* 203 on ALGAE BLOOM
* 203 on PEACH
* 620 on BLACK

Along with these kickass LPs, we also stocked a whole mess of other killer music for the Robotic Empire Online Store, including the following:

Robotic Empire - Online Store

p.s. although we're not selling it yet, everyone needs to check out the new YOUNG WIDOWS album Old Wounds on Temporary Residence... if you haven't already. Hands down one of the best albums of the year from some solid dudes down in Louisville, and their best work to date!

Pressing info for HELMS ALEE and TORCHE - Meanderthal first press

Some folks have wanted to know the pressing info for some of our recent releases, so for the ones not currently listed here's what we've got for you. A more comprehensive update to our "discography" page will commence soon. In the meantime...

HELMS ALEE - Night Terror 12" pressing info:
* 203 on BLUE / GREEN w/ SPLATTER
* 203 on PEACH
* 620 on BLACK
* 5 TEST PRESSES (all went to the band)

TORCHE's - Meanderthal 12" pressing info:
The first press for this was quite a mess as far as organization and counting goes (for a variety of reasons), so we will probably never have an accurate count on exacty how many were made. We do have approximate numbers, which we can estimate as follows:

* 1000 as picture discs
* 800 on black vinyl
* 400 on yellow vinyl
* 400 on purple vinyl
* 350 on white vinyl
* 200 on orange vinyl
* 50 blank label test presses (all given to the band and Hydra Head)

The second press (splatter) of Meanderthal is starting to trickle out there, and we'll have it available as soon as possible... which won't be as long of a wait as last time, promise! In the meantime, we do have current copies of both releases available in our Online Store.

Hope that clears some things up, thanks for the interest.

GODS & QUEENS finish debut album, post first preview track

The Brooklyn/Philadelphia trio GODS & QUEENS have finished their debut album and the first preview track has been posted online here:

http://www.myspace.com/GodsAndQueens

The untitled seven-song album was recorded by Jason LaFarge at Seizures Palace and mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East. This will see an October 14th street date as a 12"+CD (both formats together) released by Robotic Empire in North America and Adagio830 in Europe. A cassette version will also be available from Dead Format Cassettes, and digital downloads will be available on iTunes, etc.

JESU / BATTLE OF MICE split 12"/CD & VERSE EN COMA 10"+CD both out now!

Several years in the making, the long-awaited JESU / BATTLE OF MICE split is finally available! Even though it took a while, we're beyond stoked to be the ones releasing this, and each band contributes two exclusive, lengthy tracks on this limited edition release. JESU showcases "Clear Stream" and "Falling From Grace", two pieces towards the darker end of the spectrum created under the JESU moniker. BATTLE OF MICE deliver the two most sinister songs they've recorded, "The Bishop" and "Yellow & Black". Along with the vocally infamous Julie Christmas, here lies the vocal debut of Josh Graham, which preludes his work in A STORM OF LIGHT and fits as an appropriate segue. Heavier than the material found on their A Day Of Nights debut yet more dynamic overall, these two final (?) tracks from BATTLE OF MICE compliment the JESU material well. While both bands utilize traditional "heavy" music instruments, they are also unified by usage of keys, atmospherics, and general unique elements thrown in to vary it all.

We pressed these as both vinyl and CD releases, separate for a change. Each format is limited to a one-time pressing of 2000 copies. The CD comes house in a mini-gatefold jacket that mimics the larger LP gatefold jacket well. This vinyl is all colored to some degree, broken down in the following quantities:

* 500 copies on semi-translucent SILVER (silver mixed with clear)
* 500 copies on BLACK with 1/4th SILVER SPLATTER
* 500 copies on CLEAR/BLACK mix (mostly looks black until you hold it up to the light)
* 500 copies on ORANGE/CLEAR mix

These can be found now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store, and should start showing up in stores and distros this week as well.

Also finally available after many years in the making is the VERSE EN COMA debut 10"+CD, Rialto! Somewhere between the present day and unfortunate endings of CITY OF CATERPILLAR, PG.99 and MALADY, a "lost" recording was created but shelved for several years. Five dynamic tracks that collided with both artistic and industry red tape comprise the incredible VERSE EN COMA debut, Rialto. These delays hinder absolutely nothing though, as the power and sheer intensity behind these songs is borderline overwhelming. Unique, passionate and soaring vocals compliment the effects-laden screaming guitarwork and air-tight rhythm section. Coupled with distinctive song-structure and 5+ minute tracks, VERSE EN COMA's debut is a downright substantial EP. Both digital CD and analog vinyl formats are coupled together in a gatefold jacket to add to the weight of this release. The pressing info for this one is as follows:

* 700 copies on BLACK
* 200 copies on TAN
* 100 copies on WHITE w/ BLUE STREAKS

This release can also be found now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store, and should start showing up in stores and distros this week too. Two songs from this release can be heard here.

In addition to these two new releases, we've had a fairly massive influx of KILLER new items and restocks in our Online Store. One main item to point out is the HELMS ALEE "self titled" demo on CD, which is a limited prelude to their debut Night Terror album we'll be releasing on wax in the near future. Other key stuff we've stocked are new vinyl and cassette releases from Richmond's BRAINWORMS, both THOU full-lengths on CD, new CEREMONY CD, and the incredible new PYGMY LUSH, COFFINS and BORIS albums on vinyl.

In the surprising "blast from the past" category, the long-awaited (but minimally packaged) PORTRAITS OF PAST discography CD is finally here. We also scored some ancient CREATION IS CRUCIFIXION 7"s, the insanely elaborate old Deadly Sins 4x7" comp box set with DAMAD, CATHARSIS, RUINATION, UNRUH (and more), and the old ENEMY SOIL Live at Fiesta Grande flexi 7"! Those things aren't even made anymore. The first BREATHER RESIST recordings on vinyl (both as picture discs... one shaped like a casket) are also here too, along with the very last of those 10-year-old BONGZILLA 7"s we got back in May (that flew out overnight). Here's the full list:

That just about sums it up for this time around. We're still waiting for our copies of TORCHE's Meanderthal on vinyl, but at least you can now find it in some stores and online distros. Another post will be made when we finally get our copies in-house.

One last thing to note is that we've got some mailorder guys out on tour right now, so please allow at least a couple of weeks for your order to be shipped out. We have it pretty clear on our site to allow roughly 3-4 weeks for your order to arrive, but it seems like a lot of folks get antsy and can't wait that long. If you can't wait that long, please get our stuff from other locations. We are a small operation and WILL get you your stuff, but probably not quite as fast as amazon.com. The flipside of that coin is that you're supporting a family-run business that totally appreciates your support and are stoked to get you new music, as quickly as we can.

Thanks for reading all this, peace!
