Lotsa THOU media (shirt pics, great live shots, vinyl photos, etc)

Here's a little mockup image of the newest "Accountant" THOU shirt. (left part is the front, right part is the back - back print is actually pretty small). Super comfy shirt, ala American Apparel's grey tri-blend, but without supporting skumbagz...

* Grab that joker here

Brooklyn Vegan also caught THOU live at their recent (and packed) ABC No Rio gigger in NYC, snapping a bunch of rad shots (and apparently a video of them covering "Sabatoge" by ye' ol' BEASTIE BOYS!)

* Peep pics/vids here

Semi-related, longtime bro of both the band and label, Josh Sisk, snapped a few gnarly shots as well from this week's Baltimore show...

* Czech them here

Vinyl Abuse did a cool photo-review of our latest THOU release, The Archer & The Owle megaEP 12" and cassette. Some pretty rad (and large) photos can be found there now.

I think that's as much THOU updateage we can cram into one little bump... maybe we'll have a sequel with some videos? Anyway, if you dig this band we've got a boatload of their stuff, please check it out!

More new THOU vinyl & merch, plus a bigass/badass distro update!

TWO back-to-back THOU updates?! Not that crazy when you consider how freakishly prolific this monster outfit is, and we're pretty hyped to have our hands in yet another release they've done. A bit less directly this time, but along with longtime brethren Gilead Media, the Robotic Empire - Online Store is the very first place to stock THOU's band-released *upgraded* vinyl repress of their latest album, Summit.

Thankfully this one is NOT a pre-order, as this bad mamma jamma is all done and ready to roll! Their latest doom/sludge masterpiece, Summit, was initially released on wax by Southern Lord, but now self-released by the band with some mild but important upgrades: all new plates, heavyweight tip-on style jacket with clear spot-gloss, heavier printed innersleeve (with corrected text and lyrics), NO mucking around with stickers, smokey clear 180 GRAM vinyl... overall we're just talking a really classy package here.

That's not to dump on the venerable Southern Lord's pressing, which was solid. Its just that THOU has since ironed out a few OCD kinks on what they want to see within a fully realized package, taking knowledge gained from our recent The Archer & The Owle "megaEP" release and re-applying some sonic and aesthetic enhancements to their latest full-length offering.

That being said, this thing is freaking beautiful. An already massive album that is now probably a bit more in line with the true vision THOU has for this album. We're honored to aide these fine southern gentlemen in any way yet again, and of course along with our awesome(ly organized) brother-in-arms at Gilead Media!

To commemorate the occasion (and others), we have beefed up our THOU shirt arsenal with a new ripoff of a classic PG.99 image... actually the first t-shirt we ever printed so many years ago! We're still using the same great printshop who've always done us right and are happy to present this thing to you today. Alabama's Mammoth Printshop printed our very first shirt for us a solid dozen or so years ago: a black owl and mustard yellow text on an athletic grey t-shirt. Here we are again with an homage to those days (comparison image here), with friends of all conspirators THOU delivering this classic ripoff tee.

In addition to that banger, we're hoping to have another new design and one re-print in house before too long, but those didn't quite make it in time for this update. No matter, there is a (potentially literal) TON of other new items and restocks for this update, including a slew of other very righteous vinyl and shirts.

Noteworthy new jams include the debut FALSE LP (sooooo highly recommended), BARGHEST's debut (ex/current THOU), DARK CASTLE's latest on color, GHOSTLIMB efficiency, the long overdue and most triumphant HARKONEN LP (finally!), MOLOCH, SUTEKH HEXEN, more(!) freakin THOU import LPs, TOMBS wax, mo' Mylene Sheath glory, another rad COUGH shirt (exclusive to our mailorder) and lots more...

Restocks include the other gnarly COUGH t-shirt designs and ALL their vinyl releases, BARN OWL, a BARONESS re-press, CAPSULE's latest album on coloured vinylz, DROPDEAD x3, GEISHA, JUNIUS 2xLPs, MASTODON and more. Here're the full lists:

NPR streaming PG.99 and THOU live audio!

PG.99 and THOU both played Washington, DC this past weekend... DURING the middle of hurricane Irene! NPR was awesomely on hand and recorded the show!

* PG.99 streaming audio @ NPR
* THOU streaming audio @ NPR

A true road warrior named Alec travelled from Maine(!) for the event too, and took some gnarly close-up footage of the bands as well. More to surface, but here's THOU covering NIRVANA (at the 2minute mark):

Last related news for now: longtime likeminded weirdo Ryan Hex is still going strong with his Hex Records / Hanging Like a Hex thing... stoked he's still writing righteous reviews after all these years. Anyway, he just dropped some science on THOU's new The Archer & The Owle megeEP including this tasty tidbit:

"Thou keeps their massive sludge experiments interesting, rocking, and most of all, heavy as Marty McFly's opinion of time travel. It's like Eyehategod with extra brains and just as much spite, and some cool, twisted melody to top it all off. They probably gave this away for free online already anyway, but the vinyl looks pretty cool and I think they even made a run of cassettes for this release if you're into 80's technology."

* Read the whole thing here, its great and there's plenty of other well written reviews too. No universal praise either, dawg keeps it real!

Beyond that, we're steadily selling the new releases (and reiusse) from both bands, so check em out if you haven't already:

New releases from PG.99 and THOU + shirt and vinyl sales, new items and more!!

Sometimes it can be difficult to write about dudes you've spent important formative years with, witnessing them grow from teenage punx into skilled musicians and incredible songwriters. Our longtime brothers from Sterling, Virginia are just that though... so with a nostalgic heart we present the latest Robotic Empire update.

PG.99 is the first band we ever did a release with, back in the very beginning Robodog days at the end of the last century. Its pretty crazy that over 12 years later, here we are again still talking about the same band... but they seemed incredible to us back then and still remain so today. From their first demo material to the final recordings five years later, it was amazing to watch this band evolve into the formidable force they became. Its appropriate then that Robotic Empire presents the long-overdue vinyl issuing of PAGENINETYNINE's Singles collection album.

Eighteen tracks spanning their existence have been pressed into one stellar LP. Originally released on CD by (the now-defunct?) Reptilian Records, this collection compiles PG.99's widespread non-album material. It includes the stuff from their splits with CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, ENEMY SOIL, PROCESS IS DEAD and REACTOR NO. 7 along with other short-run compilation, EP and demo tracks.

Most PAGENINETYNINE fans have a favorite album, but in some ways Singles may be a better overall representation of the band. Each of their three full-lengths (and split longplayer with MAJORITY RULE) are excellent individual documents in their progression, but Singles manages to show it all: their humble beginnings to furious midpoint and experimental end. From the original demo tape to final split EP release, the wild ride of PG.99's various creations are clearly displayed on Singles, showing a band that evolved more in their prolific five years than one could really deem reasonable.

Finely mastered by James Plotkin for a much warmer and fuller sound not heard on the original releases, this 12" has been packaged in a printed innersleeve (with an excellent eulogy by JR Hayes of PIG DESTROYER) and a silk-screened fold-over cover (printed by Broken Press, ala document #8 - click here for a bigger version of the above photospread). 1000 copies have been pressed: 200 on green, 200 on blue and 600 on black vinyl.

** THIS IS TECHNICALLY A PRE-ORDER as it officially has an August 2nd "street date", although we've been given the go-ahead to start shipping out pre-orders within a week or two from now. However, everything for this release is now finished and in house already.. so you can order this NOW in the Robotic Empire - Online Store and we will ship out all orders as promptly as possible! **

Closely related is the latest pressing of PG.99's landmark document #8 album. Considered by many to be their definitive album, its easily the one with the most vision. Originally recorded throughout one hectic weekend in the winter of 2001, document #8 was re-mixed a few years later by band members and engineer Kurt Ballou. Since this recording those guys have forged a relationship that continues throughout each PYGMY LUSH recording (also accomplished at Kurt's Godcity studios) and the results speak for themselves. Blistering songs dripping with spirit and passion, document #8 is arguably PG.99's magnum opus. Also housed in a silkscreen jacket, this one comes with a large 16-page booklet of lyrics/artwork/photos/etc (click here for a bigger version of the above photospread). 1000 more copies of this LP have been pressed: 200 on red, 200 on white and 600 on black vinyl.

Both of these releases are timed to correspond with PAGENINETYNINE's reunion at this year's Best Friends Day festival in Richmond, Virginia. Friday, August 19th will see them play alongside CONVERGE, STRIKE ANYWHERE, CAPSULE and more at the Canal Club in RVA. Their plan is to perform the document #8 album in full, along with other material spanning their history. Its definitely not something to miss, as PG.99 hasn't played live in over eight years. More information on the (massively fun) Best Friends Day event can be found here: http://www.bestfriendsdayrva.com

In a new addition to the Best Friends Day performance, PAGENINETYNINE will also play a bit closer to home at the Black Cat in Washington, DC the following weekend on Saturday, August 27th. Appropriately, THOU will be opening up that show... PG.99 + THOU for $10 = pretty hard to beat! More info on that over at the Black Cat website.

Both of those LPs, along with some celebratory-discounted PG.99 t-shirts (and the many members' other bands' records) can be found in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Related in core fundamentals is a lengthy new release from Louisiana's THOU. Longtime friends of the aforementioned Virginians, THOU is cut from a very similar cloth wherein a DIY mentality is the backbone to extreme(ly) heavy music. The sonic results may vary from PG.99, but THOU's rock-solid work ethic, relentless touring and absurdly prolific release schedule now rivals (and possibly exceeds) their Sterling, VA contemporaries. Its also been a great pleasure to work with these maniacs in the past, thus we're honored to present their new 12" to you today.

Recorded throughout the turn of the decade, THOU deliver another potent 40 minutes of triumphant doom-laden sludge fury on The Archer & The Owle. Atypical heavyness to say the least, the ultra-crushing sound THOU has become known for is subtly enhanced by unique elements ala piano, atmospheric noise, horns, double bass and several re-envisioned cover songs for keen ears to decipher. Along with otherwise unreleased Summit-era material, this lengthy "megaEP" also (appropriately) contains THOU's original half of the now postponed co-release with PYGMY LUSH, oddly inspiring the band to then cover two tracks by their collaborators' latest work.

Its all spice added to the overall stunning effect of a truly visionary band; intelligent commentary atop six massive tracks of absolutely bludgeoning music. Presented on color vinyl housed in a beautiful spot-glossed "tip-on" classic style heavyweight gatefold LP jacket, this is yet another brick in THOU's ever-strengthening wall of spite and menace. All mailorder copies of The Archer & The Owle vinyl include a canvas patch exclusive to the label and band copies. 2000 copies of this "megaEP" have been pressed: 500 on opaque gray (mailorder/band only) and 1500 on translucent clear. This and much of THOU's vast back-catalog (plus a few t-shirt designs) can be found now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

** As above with PG.99's Singles 12", THIS IS TECHNICALLY A PRE-ORDER as it officially has an August 2nd "street date", although we've been given the go-ahead to start shipping out pre-orders within a week or two from now. However, everything for this release is en route to us... so you can order this NOW in the Robotic Empire - Online Store and we will ship out all orders as promptly as possible! **

In addition to the vinyl version of this behemoth, we've teamed up with our brothers at Sweat Lodge Guru (who are also responsible for the awesome OMGvinyl) to unleash the cassette version of this "megaEP".

300 copies of the pro-tape version have been made, which comes in an unreal two-color letterpress double-sided, mulit-panel j-card (click here for a bigger version of the above photospread). Pretty darn impressive for 6 bucks, this is available NOW in the Robotic Empire - Online Store as well as from Sweat Lodge Guru.

In addition to these new releases (and re-press) we've got a fairly significant RoboSale going on at the moment. Hot on the heels of our insane "fire sale" discounts throughout May and June, we're now offering a slew of Robotic Empire released vinyl and t-shirts at some stupid discounts... only until the end of July though. The vinyl is a widespread slew of Robo (and related) releases, and the shirts are mostly discounted in related celebration of PG.99's burst of activity! Here's the list:

All of the above discounted stuff can be found now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store. This is all in an effort to clear some space, as along with the new releases above we also recently re-pressed some essential TORCHE albums (highlighted in the last update). What this all amounts to is a real premium for space at the lil' ol' RoboHQ so thus, the sales continue. However, this is likely to be our last large-scale discounting for a while, but nonetheless there's some good deals to be had. Along with the above items, over 275+ others have various sales attached to them as well.

Beyond all the new Robo label activity, we've actually gotten in very few new stuff/restocks lately (for a change), only a couple items really... so we're posting those along with the last update's stuff.

"this is a real ep" (aka, two awesome THOU reviews!)

It's pretty awesome and inspiring when we get sent reviews for a release we didn't even mail out promos for. BIG ups to Ian Wise and Demian Johnston for taking the time to review the THOU, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP all on their own volition. Seriously, much appreciated!

---

Thou somehow manage to consistently put out fully realized records with obviously thoughtful artwork and meticulous packaging. And they do so at a pace that makes me embarrassed of how slowly my own musical endeavors come together. This release, their most recent 12” EP (it’s four songs, but each side is about 15 minutes, so “EP” is sort of misleading) sums up most things I love about the band. Their earlier releases were heavy, but focused on slow parts with really pretty sounding guitar harmonies. I loved it, but recently they’ve picked up the pace a little and have gotten much, much more dissonant in their sound. This record is no less abrasive than the “Smoke Pigs” track they contributed their split with Black September, but they have some spacey, jammy parts that go well with their sludge aesthetic and help the record flow better as a long player. The tracks here also seem less disjointed than songs on Tyrant or Peasant, both of which had some awkward changes. Of course, the packaging is great as the band partnered with the always diligent Robotic Empire, the only people who may actually be nerdier than Thou about vinyl packaging. -Ian Wise / Razorcake (buy here)

holy shit. this is fantastic. super heavy, super thick and totally amazing sounding. you can really tell they gave a shit in releasing this. i have no idea if this is coming out in any other formats but this is a real ep. so often bands will release a cassette to keep some sort of "cred" going but it ends up being some throw away demos or noise from a band that has no business making noise. this feels real. two heavy and interesting originals on the a side and an instrumental laden with samples and really heavy guitars followed by a Nirvana cover with a killer guitar solo using a phase shifter in a excellent way. the way this sounds is also another reason why having James Plotkin master your releases will never make you regret the affordable price. you just have to hear it. it sounds amazing. the packaging is a double sided screenprinted three panel j card and it looks fantastic. the artwork is great, the music is great. i used to not really dig thou but after the last couple things i have heard i am completely sold. great work. - Demian Johnston / Dead Formats

This release is still available on both formats (vinyl and cassette):
* THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For 12"
* THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For Cassette
* THOU - Most of the rest of their (available) standalone releases, plus t-shirts/etc

New releases & re-presses from THOU, HEWHOCORRUPTS, SHITSTORM, SUFFOCATE FOR FUCK SAKE and more!

We are psyched to announce that the previously (and quickly) sold out THOU EP, Baton Rouge, You Have Much to Answer For, is now available again on both vinyl and cassette. We re-pressed the vinyl on black (1000) and tapes on red (200). Same artwork, same inserts, same music and all... just available again, this time with a sweet corresponding t-shirt printed up as well. The shirt is (reappropriated) artwork from the gatefold LP jacket's back cover, and turned out really awesome. 2-color front, 1-color back and red & black ink on "athletic grey" sweatshop-free t-shirts; you can see a bigger image of the front artwork here. There's no package deals or anything set up, but we tried to keep the prices pretty low on all this stuff.

For those living under a rock and still unfamiliar with the grossly prolific THOU, they are easily our favorite southern sludge/doom band in years and a true force to be reckoned with both live and on record. A seething ode to their city of inception, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For contains by far some of THOU's best material released to date, and one of the most downtrodden recordings we've been a part of over the past 11+ years of doing this label. It's an "EP" because it's 4 songs total, but it's also over 30 minutes of crushing music, set to the tune of the end of times. Like all of their recordings, its available for free download on their website or if you're oldschool and want the physical "real thing", this EP and most of the rest of the available THOU releases are available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Related to this (but not actually our release) is a killer writeup NPR (!) just gave in regards to both THOU's live experience and their new album Summit. Very cool to see such a respected publication shine a little light down into the underground, this time directly onto our friends. You can read the article here and/or pre-order the new Summit CD release from our brethren at Gilead Media (we'll be stocking it too as soon as its publicly available).

At another end of the hardcore/metal spectrum is the recent HEWHOCORRUPTS Midi of Profits USB Rubber Bracelet release. Attacking capitalism through a more tongue-in-cheek approach (vs THOU's somewhat blunt methods), HEWHOCORRUPTS have flown the "corporate grindcore" flag for years, culminating in probably their most absurd release ever (exceeding a credit card-sized CD housed in a wallet, a NSFW split calendar and a 7" packaged with shredded US currency). Yes, that's right... this is a functional AND fashionable USB-chip-infused rubber bracelet with meticulously recreated MIDI-based songs held within, inspired in part by their classic Master of Profits EP which displayed a masterful love/hate relationship with METALLICA. Long story short, this 1gb USB chip bracelet is packed with music, videos, tabulator, animated GIFs and other awesome nonsense to justify the pure stupidity of creating this thing. Limited to 200 copies and available now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store.

Beyond the recent label activity, there's also been a steady stream of killer new stuff and restocks in the Robotic Empire - Online Store. This week we've got another "exclusively distributed" item, the new one from Swedish post-metal outfit SUFFOCATE FOR FUCK SAKE. We couldn't keep their previous stuff in stock, and are the only US outlet you can order this monster 2xLP from. Also new in the expletive-band-name front is the long-awaited blistering split 7" from SHITSTORM and CONGA FURY, showcasing easily the heaviest n' fiercest SHITSTORM tracks to date. Solely re-stocking cassettes this week, mostly from our screamy-hardcore-lovin' Malaysian friends at Utarid, here's the full list:

THOU - Baton Rouge 12" now available! +hella rare archive finds (ISIS, TORCHE, JESU, etc)

Quite a long time in the making (and many production headaches later), we are incredibly thrilled to announce our first vinyl release with longtime bros THOU. These Louisiana heathens have been cranking out a steady stream of sludge/doom gold since their inception a few years ago, and like fools we passed on releasing their debut album Tyrant, only to continuously regret it ever since.

Now though after years of talk, we finally put our money where our mouths are and deliver the good proper with this beautiful gatefold 12" EP release. It's an "EP" because it's 4 songs total, but it's also over 30 minutes of crushing music, set to the tune of the end of times. A seething ode to their city of inception, Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For contains by far some of THOU's best material released to date. The perfect marriage of sludge, melody, doom, hatred and melancholy... this is powerful stuff, and we're honored to present it to you.

Available on red or clear vinyl, this 12" EP is for sale now in the Robotic Empire - Online Store

You can stream the bulk of the EP at our myspace page or download it (and everything else they've released) at the band's website.

It'd also be a good time to mention the other recent vinyl releases we've just dropped from TIDELAND (Asleep In The Graveyard debut 12"), CAPSULE (Self-Titled collections 12") and FLOOR (Below & Beyond discography deluxe box set), all of which are still available from us. The label hasn't been this active with new releases in a LONG time and it'd help us heaps if you picked something up.

On that same tip, we dug up a bunch of personal archive stash stuff and put it up on the store. Sold out releases from ISIS (the box set!), TORCHE (first two LPs) and the BATTLE OF MICE / JESU split as well. It's highly unlikely we'll ever be re-stocking any of that stuff again, so strike now or forever hold your peace.

And last but not least, of course, are the new items and restocks to the Robotic Empire - Online Store. Two killer THOU splits restocked from our European brethern at Adagio/Vendetta along with their solid catalog titles (SALOME, INDIAN SUMMER) and always-quality new releases too (NADJA, SINALOA, etc). Another new YEAR OF NO LIGHT record, this time a crazy 2xLP import, and probably the only mailorderable copies anywhere of the old SNACK TRUCK demo 7"! With a bunch of other solid releases as well, this is a good batch of stuff... here ya go:

CAPSULE - Tape + Demo + Tour + More (collections) 12" & THOU - Baton Rouge cassette now available!

Whoa, things are INSANE here. Hot on the heels of the FLOOR - Below & Beyond box set completion + shipment madness and KILLER reunion shows, we've got another round of new releases and general chaos over here. We nabbed 25 more copies of the Below & Beyond 8xCD set from our distributor, but they've already flown outta here. We're getting the remaining unsold band copies in a week or so, and that's probably it. The deluxe vinyl version is still available, and we're also scoring the band's unsold t-shirts in roughly a week too.

Beyond Below & Beyond (oof, sorry), we are psyched to announce yet another Robotic Empire label release from a sick South Florida band. CAPSULE's collections LP, Tape + Demo + Tour + More, is now available after being several years in the making. 15 tracks of totally berzerker complicatedcore, or, everything these ADD maniacs recorded prior to the Blue album we released a couple years ago. The release turned out rad with super bright artwork and a high-gloss finish (ala Blue) too, with some pretty outrageous colored vinyl to top it all off. Pretty sure we ordered 200 of the "snow drift" and "slime mold" colors, and 800 of the "cola" which turned out a rad translucent brown. Actually, they all turned out pretty sweet! This is technically a pre-order since it drops in stores/etc on April 13th (so expect them to arrive around that date), but we've got them in house now and they're good to go! Some tracks from that can be heard here (last 2 tracks) and/or ordered now in our Online Store.

We were supposed to also have the TIDELAND LP and THOU Baton Rouge vinyl for this update as well, but both of those have hit production snags and unfortunately won't be available for a few more weeks at the earliest. Sons of Vesta has their copies of the killer debut TIDELAND album now (we co-released it with them) as does the band themselves, but ours are weirdly MIA for the time being. More on that soon...

In the meantime, we decided to drop a cassette version of the phenomenal THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP since the gatefold jackets for the vinyl version have to be completely reprinted. UGH. The tape turned out cool though with black/white/red covers, a black & white cassette, plus a two-color patch for good measure. Limited to 200, this should hopefully tide you over until the vinyl edition is finally ready for real, hopefully in just a few weeks. Listen to this in its entirety on our myspace and/or the band's website (along with everything they have released). This tape is available now in our Online Store.

Another healthy round of new items & restocks have been added to the Robotic Empire - Online Store as well, with a variety of good jams across the spectrum. Notable is the GET RAD stuff from Hyperrealist along with re-stocks of POLLUTION and RAEIN (both sold out quick last time). Also worth mentioning are the Red Cobalt label items imported from Japan (2 new, 1 restock)... they are expensive but deluxe to the max! Add in some crucial Hydra Head staples, a big pile of stuff we got from Ebullition and some other rando items... and this is a darnright stacked update! Here ya go:

New (semi-exclusive) THOU/HAARP split 7", holiday promo deal, lots of discounts, etc!

Well "tis the season" for crazed holiday madness. We sorta have a love/hate relationship with this pandemonium, and to keep a lil' tradition going here we're offering up another "Special Holiday Promotion" in the Robotic Empire - Online Store... kinda like last year's, but a little better. Basically anyone who orders $50 worth or more of stuff can get 10% off and a free "Destroyer Zombies" Robotic Empire t-shirt too. Just let us know you're preferred size and color (comes on a black or white t-shirt) and we'll hook it up as long as the supplies last.

HOLIDAZE is the coupon code to get 10% off all $50+ orders, and here's how you redeem it: Add stuff to your cart and check out as usual. After you sign in with PayPal, you get taken back to the Robo Store and THERE is where you enter in the HOLIDAZE redemption code, and right below in the "notes" box is where you should put in your preferred size and color for the free "Destroyer Zombies" t-shirt.

Also on the same topic: SHIPPING IN TIME FOR XMAS: People can kinda lose their heads a bit this time of year so we're gonna spell it out plain and clear:

* All "media mail" orders placed after December 7th CANNOT be guaranteed to arrive before the 25th. This method can already be slow during normal shipping times, so yeah, Dec 7th is the cutoff date for "media mail".

* Otherwise either "Priority Mail" or "UPS Ground" are the best way to go. Those both move much faster than other shipping methods, so please chose this if you are trying to get something quickly.

* ALSO: please tack on a few extra days for us to pack & ship your orders! This time of year gets especially hectic and due to the relatively small size of our operation, it can get a little backed up. Please allow a few extra days beyond just standard shipping time.

* THANK YOU! That's probably the most important thing of all to note. We really appreciate you ordering from us for your friends/family/self/etc, so we gotta throw that in there. Just have to be sorta blunt about the other stuff too though so there's no confusion.

OK gabba gabba gabba, blah blah...yammerin on and on. Here's the cool part of the update: new stuff!

Guess what: a new THOU release! Looks like we're gonna be one of the main distributors for the new Richmond upstart label Mirror Universe, and they've kicked things off right with a brutal (and extensive) split 7" from bayou brothers THOU and HAARP. Baton Rouge vs New Orleans, and man alive are these some burly jams! The content of this 7" is pretty much outlandish: classic apocalyptic woodcut imagery, a huge poster insert, a bigass booklet stapled to the interior of the jacket, and cool orangey red "fire" colored vinyl too. (click here for a larger photo of the whole shebang) Not a bad way to do things at all, and a very appropriate teamup of some of the heaviest bands coming out of the south right now. Pretty stoked on this jammer!

New THOU t-shirts, discounted items & more @ Robotic Empire - Online Store

When our southern brethren in THOU asked us if we wanted to handle the mailorder for their t-shirts, we didn't hesitate for a moment. They like to keep their merch as inexpensive as possible for folks, but still high quality items that are sweatshop free. We're now happy to announce that we've printed up four new shirt designs for THOU, all on American Apparel brand t-shirts, and we're charging $11.99 for the majority of them (2XLs are a buck more). We've lowered the prices of existing Viking Warlock shirts to the same amounts as well. These are all available now in sizes Youth Large through Double Extra Large:

We will be announcing more info about forthcoming THOU releases in the next month or so (some preliminary details can be found in the Robotic Obscurities blog), but we're very excited to be working with these guys! For anyone who hasn't heard them yet, be sure to check our their website for an insane amount of content (including free MP3 downloads of every track they've released to date).

At a faster end of the metal spectrum...

Vice Magazine has a new blog post entitled "IT HAPPENED - I DRESSED UP AS CANNABIS CORPSE'S WEED MONSTER", which pretty much sums up the post.

It's worth a quick read regardless, and we figured this was as good of an excuse as any to knock a couple bucks off the CANNABIS CORPSE vinyl on our site, so we did. These LPs will be on sale until the end of the month:

Robotic Empire - Online Store

Exclusive THOU shirt now available, plus TORCHE vinyl & more...

We're stoked to present an exclusive t-shirt from our burly southern brothers in THOU. This Viking Warlock design in appropriate grimness features almost-black ink on a slightly faded black t-shirt, so from the day you slip it on it looks like your favorite old faded shirt from years ago. It's just as comfortable too, printed on a super fine-threaded Tultex brand t-shirt. This design is "exclusive" in the sense that no other online shops have this, but the band should have it on tour with them as well!

The front has THOU's gnarly bat logo with a crucial viking underneath, and the back has pillaging imagery with the explicit mantra at the bottom: "Eat. Fight. Fuck". One of our favorite active heavy/doom/sludge bands going right now, to us THOU are legends in the making. The photo above is of the front and back of this beast. This is available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store in sizes Youth Large (XS) through Double Extra Large (XXL).

We are also pleased to announce that TORCHE's Self-Titled Reissue 12" has been pressed for a third time and is now available again after a few months of unavailability. This time around instead of applying a sticker to the bag, we had them print on the bag itself... and although the difference is subtle, it's nerdworthy enough for us to be psyched on it! Another difference with this pressing is that we opted to try the "planets" effect on one color version, albeit a little different. Small triangles of colored vinyl were inserted into the vinyl itself and the effect turned out pretty cool... and varied. A few examples can be seen in the photo above (along with a couple of our dogs). A slightly blurry but semi-hilarious closeup photo can be seen here (and at the bottom of this update). This (and literally tons of other TORCHE stuff) is available now in the Robotic Empire Online Store.

Besides that trippy triangle planet "pyramids" version, we also made four other color vinyl variations in attempts of complimenting the myriad colors in the gatefold jacket's artwork. The pressing info for this third press is as follows:

* 200 on AUTUMN (red/orange/yellow tri-blend)
* 200 on DESERT (half translucent orange / half beer)
* 200 on ELECTRIC BLUE (dark blue / light blue swirl)
* 200 on PYRAMIDS (cokebottle green with small triangle inserts)
* 200 on SALMON (opaque pink / clear swirl)

If you've read all of this so far you are probably already familiar with the behemoth that is TORCHE, but in the off chance that this is the first time you're reading about them, here is the formal description we wrote for this Self-Titled Reissue album:

Once described as "stoner pop", Miami quartet TORCHE could just as awkwardly be called "doom pop" or "thunder rock"... but what all these clumsy words boil down to is simultaneously one of the catchiest AND heaviest bands to ever grace the worlds of metal, indie and underground music in general. Sound like hyperbole? TORCHE actually has their own patented "bomb string" tuning which is literally unparalleled in heavy music (past or present) and they use it liberally on this, their self-titled debut full-length album.

Easily the heaviest record Robotic Empire had released to date, never has a "metal" album existed quite like the mind-blowing debut release from TORCHE. Hinted at by members’ former group FLOOR, truly anthemic, triumphant and absolutely massive heavy metal has never been this undeniably catchy! With gloriously sung, harmonized and soaring vocal arrangements accompanying the most monolithic riffs of modern times, TORCHE reaches to push the envelope and then engulfs it in flames. Call it "stoner pop"or "exquisite brutality"... call it whatever you want. In the end, TORCHE are still a major force to fuck with, and undeniable leaders of an incredible new style of heavy music.

This is the deluxe, fully re-mixed and re-mastered edition of TORCHE’s debut album... which has been completely reworked from the ground up due to the band’s overall dissatisfaction with the original release. This new version is a much more accurate representation of the band with an even heavier (and clearer) mix than the original, also containing an all new bonus track originally recorded during the initial tracking (but only recently receiving some absolutely epic vocal treatment). Robotic Empire is genuinely proud to re-release this incredible album... the vinyl edition having a beautifully appropriate gatefold jacket, full color printed inner sleeve and limited colored vinyl. This is also our first release with printwork directly on the bag itself! Enjoy!

The song "Mentor" from this album can be heard online here.
