CAPSULE - Tape + Demo + Tour + More (collections) 12" & THOU - Baton Rouge cassette now available!

Whoa, things are INSANE here. Hot on the heels of the FLOOR - Below & Beyond box set completion + shipment madness and KILLER reunion shows, we've got another round of new releases and general chaos over here. We nabbed 25 more copies of the Below & Beyond 8xCD set from our distributor, but they've already flown outta here. We're getting the remaining unsold band copies in a week or so, and that's probably it. The deluxe vinyl version is still available, and we're also scoring the band's unsold t-shirts in roughly a week too.

Beyond Below & Beyond (oof, sorry), we are psyched to announce yet another Robotic Empire label release from a sick South Florida band. CAPSULE's collections LP, Tape + Demo + Tour + More, is now available after being several years in the making. 15 tracks of totally berzerker complicatedcore, or, everything these ADD maniacs recorded prior to the Blue album we released a couple years ago. The release turned out rad with super bright artwork and a high-gloss finish (ala Blue) too, with some pretty outrageous colored vinyl to top it all off. Pretty sure we ordered 200 of the "snow drift" and "slime mold" colors, and 800 of the "cola" which turned out a rad translucent brown. Actually, they all turned out pretty sweet! This is technically a pre-order since it drops in stores/etc on April 13th (so expect them to arrive around that date), but we've got them in house now and they're good to go! Some tracks from that can be heard here (last 2 tracks) and/or ordered now in our Online Store.

We were supposed to also have the TIDELAND LP and THOU Baton Rouge vinyl for this update as well, but both of those have hit production snags and unfortunately won't be available for a few more weeks at the earliest. Sons of Vesta has their copies of the killer debut TIDELAND album now (we co-released it with them) as does the band themselves, but ours are weirdly MIA for the time being. More on that soon...

In the meantime, we decided to drop a cassette version of the phenomenal THOU - Baton Rouge, You Have Much To Answer For EP since the gatefold jackets for the vinyl version have to be completely reprinted. UGH. The tape turned out cool though with black/white/red covers, a black & white cassette, plus a two-color patch for good measure. Limited to 200, this should hopefully tide you over until the vinyl edition is finally ready for real, hopefully in just a few weeks. Listen to this in its entirety on our myspace and/or the band's website (along with everything they have released). This tape is available now in our Online Store.

Another healthy round of new items & restocks have been added to the Robotic Empire - Online Store as well, with a variety of good jams across the spectrum. Notable is the GET RAD stuff from Hyperrealist along with re-stocks of POLLUTION and RAEIN (both sold out quick last time). Also worth mentioning are the Red Cobalt label items imported from Japan (2 new, 1 restock)... they are expensive but deluxe to the max! Add in some crucial Hydra Head staples, a big pile of stuff we got from Ebullition and some other rando items... and this is a darnright stacked update! Here ya go:

Robotic Empire's first digital-only releases (CAPSULE, ENEMY SOIL, VANESSA VAN BASTEN)

The whole music industry's changing fast, and the wiseman says "adapt or die", right? Well, I guess that's sunk in a bit here at Robotic Empire and we've decided to try out the whole "digital-only" release thing. Although we're cheating a bit, since these releases already exist(ed) in one physical form or another. We're pretty psyched regardless, as this is a relatively simple way to work with some choice bands (and hopefully lead up to future collaborations too).

capsule - Tape + Demo + Tour
CAPSULE: We already released their debut album Blue, and this digital-only (for now) release titled Tape + Demo + Tour compiles the ten songs from the cassette tape we made for them a few years ago (which contained their demo and 7" material), plus three rare tracks from a tour-only EP the band self-released. Here's our more "formal" description of the collection:

Miami, Florida's CAPSULE are a pummeling trio and this 13-track compilation collects all of their released material prior to their debut album, Blue. Originally released across a limited cassette, 7" vinyl record and a tour-only CD-R, these songs show the excellent progression from CAPSULE's demo up to their debut album. Mathematically intense hardcore/punk/grind with stop-start precision and a confusing conglomeration of crashing percussion, squealing guitarwork and a myriad of buried, blurry vocal shouts. An intense ride, and a great collection of CAPSULE's initial works.

* A newly-posted preview track from this digital-only release can now be found on their myspace page
* A recent video montage of CAPSULE's journey to "The Fest 7" can also be viewed here

Enemy Soil - Smashes the State! - R.I.P. 1991-1998
ENEMY SOIL: This is the band that got me into metal. Most people have an older brother or cool friend or something that gets them into subversive music, but my first introduction to anything remotely heavy (outside of punk) was seeing ENEMY SOIL live in a basement in Sterling, Virginia. Needless to say it was a life changing event, and so it's sort of an honor to finally work with Richard "The Grindfather" Johnson after all these years. For those unfamiliar with the band, here's a more cohesive description:

ENEMY SOIL was a long-running, grinding monster who's members eventually went on to form or join PIG DESTROYER, AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, DRUGS OF FAITH, PG.99, CITY OF CATERPILLAR, FRODUS, BATTLETORN and many, many more. The epitome of "underground", this massive collection is their swansong to blistering grindcore, with everything they ever recorded and/or released (except for one a 7" on Relapse). From their humble (yet crucial) drum-machine origins, to the behemoth of a full-band they would eventually become... the sheer variety (and quantity) of punk, metal, grind, industrial and more collected here is downright impressive. With 72 tracks over nearly two hours, this is an epic homage to the mighty ENEMY SOIL!

* A recently-posted preview track from this release can now be found on our myspace page
* Further samples of archive tracks can be found here (a variety) and here (super old stuff)

VANESSA VAN BASTEN: An Italian band we've been super into ever since hearing their La Stanza Di Swedenborg album a few years ago. There's so many "heavy post-rock" bands out there that it'd almost be easy for VVB to get lost in the shuffle... but (to us at least) their quality of material really sets them apart from the pack. Channeling more from Justin K. Broadrick's classic work than the realms typically trodden, VANESSA VAN BASTEN are a hypnotic beast... which is incredible considering the majority of their songs are constructed as just a duo! These digital-download releases of their three CDs will be our first time working with VANESSA VAN BASTEN and we're most excited to present their catalog to world digitally.

Vanessa Van Basten
The debut from VANESSA VAN BASTEN, the duo that utilizes guests and contributors from the alternative and extreme Italian underground. This is how they describe themselves: "We make slow, heavy, metaphysic instrumental music. Our influences are the cosmic psychedelia, industrial rock like SWANS or GODFLESH, Neurot & Hydrahead catalogue." Basically, they take a lot of elements from a lot of great bands and re-work the styles into a captivating new whole. This is their humble debut, a powerful indication of their potential and the great things to come!

Vanessa Van Basten
Incredible Italian duo VANESSA VAN BASTEN walk in the same footsteps as JESU, ISIS, NEUROSIS and PELICAN without totally jocking their styles. Very anthemic but not cliché, these guys would easily be a household name here if they were only FROM here. Seriously though, this stuff is intense! La Stanza Di Swedenborg is their stunning first full-length release, with eight tracks total.

Vanessa Van Basten
Two years after the critically acclaimed La Stanza di Swedenborg, VANESSA VAN BASTEN returns with two brand new epic tracks combined on this beautiful EP, which was written by all band members. This heavy Italian postrock ensemble does not constrict itself to the laws of some Great Postrock Bible. Instead it blends in psychedelia, ambient influences, metal and shoegaze to result in a unique musical experience. Dreamlike and cinematographic sounds collide with heavy and dark sonic assaults: the music is incredibly crafted and reveals more of its intrinsic beauty every time it is being played. VANESSA VAN BASTEN has kept their DIY attitude as the tracks were recorded in the rehearsal room and at home with the aid of a technician and feature the same human drummer that toured with the band in the past (no more computer drums this time). Incredible and intense material from one of Europe's best underground bands.

* Audio samples from each release can be found on VANESSA VAN BASTEN's myspace page

This would probably be a good time to mention that our most recent physical releases are also available digitally, including the A STORM OF LIGHT / NADJA - Primitive North split, BATTLE OF MICE / JESU - Split, GODS & QUEENS - untitled debut album, VERSE EN COMA - Rialto EP and almost everything else in our catalog of releases. These and much more can be found on iTunes, emusic, amazon.com, etc, etc, etc.

* A STORM OF LIGHT / NADJA - Primitive North split on A Storm of Light - Primitive North
* BATTLE OF MICE / JESU - Split on Jesu - Split - EP
* GODS & QUEENS - untitled on Gods and Queens - Untitled
* VERSE EN COMA - Rialto on Verse En Coma - Rialto - EP

For those out there who actually do pay for digital download releases, we salute you. You are directly supporting the musicians and record labels that completely depend on the independent music community to get by. We realize that in this current age of instant-everything, it's pretty easy for people to justify NOT paying for downloadable music. All that does though is take away from people sacrificing comfortable lives to give time, hard work and money... just to create an album. Please don't take that for granted. Thank you!

ROBOTIC EMPIRE - Online Store Updates (new shirts, limited vinyl, cassettes, CDs and... other stuff)

It's been a couple of weeks since the release of the CANNABIS CORPSE Tube Of The Resinated 12" but the response has been pretty awesome! Thanks to everyone who's ordered, and we still have copies available in the Robotic Empire Online Store for those who missed it. In related celebration of its release, we re-printed CANNABIS CORPSE's first t-shirt design, aptly titled "Skullbong". Yep, it's a crucial image of a bong made out of a gnarly skull, with generally evil shit surrounding it. We made these in Youth Large all the way through Double Extra Large... those and all other CANNABIS CORPSE items can be found here.

Another batch of t-shirts we've printed up are for CAPSULE, who recently got home from a massive full-US tour with FURNACE. They blew through their band copies of these shirts at last weekend's Dude Fest, so the Robotic Empire Online Store is the best place to pick up CAPSULE shirts for now. To make up for not getting our shit together to make another Robotic Empire Limited T-Shirt Series shirt for this month, we decided to tye-die some of the supersoft, grey CAPSULE shirts instead. The results are varied but all-in-all these turned out pretty badass, and are available on one of the most comfortable shirts out there. All CAPSULE items we carry can be found here.

On the distro end, we've got some solid stoner jams from new Belgian label Electric Earth (who just had a baby boy and named him Thor, which rules!). Aside from that, their releases are top notch in quality so check them out. After literally begging and pleading, we finally got the HELMS ALEE 1-sided 12" from Rome Plow and this thing is incredible. It's got a burly etching on the B-side and every element of it has some hand-screened artwork (including the poly bag)! This preludes the impressive Night Terror album we are releasing for HELMS ALEE later this year. Hydra Head's doing the CD, we're doing the vinyl and this band is former folk from HARKONEN, who we always felt were totally underappreciated. Oto Records in Japan released an OFF MINOR / KILLIE split 2xCD that comes in an amazing die-cut rectangular box with CDs side by side. Seriously insane packaging. Lots of new/re-stocked cassette tapes, some impressive new releases from our bros at Cavity Records (NORTH, PAULSON), limited imported vinyl, and a few other badass releases for this update:

CAPSULE "Blue" 12"+CD (together) OUT NOW!! +online store additions

A long, long time coming, we are thrilled (and relieved) to finally announce that CAPSULE's debut album Blue is now available through the Robotic Empire Online Store! One of the weirdest/craziest/perplexing albums we've heard in years, CAPSULE are seriously playing some of the most fucked up hardcore out there. There was a very frustrating problem with the manufacturing of the CD portion of this 12"+CD combo that resulted in over a month's delay with this release... but new CDs have been pressed and this beast is finally available! Here's what we wrote about this mindboggling debut:

Wrapping one's head around what exactly CAPSULE is doing on their debut album Blue is damn-near impossible, as these three post-ADD maniacs have created one of the strangest heavy-music albums in years. This is a confounding conglomeration of blasting time-signatures, galloping punk spirit and a ghostly vocal chorus that buzzes through a mountain of guitar and bass. No other band sounds like Miami's trio CAPSULE, just as CAPSULE sounds like no other band.

Blurry, buried shouts in unison are surrounded by absolutely thunderous songs, played at speeds with every tempo in the "punk" and "metal" spectrums. Intricate melodies in bizarre tunings sneak their way into an overall unnerving amalgamation of genres, creating an anxiety-filled album of fevered beauty. Of course, this is coming from a label who writes release descriptions typically loaded with hyperbole, but we still say with full confidence that this is one of the most unique and interesting albums Robotic Empire has released to date.

Attempting to keep up with the packaging precedence set by Miami brethren TORCHE's "In Return" 10"+CD release, CAPSULE's Blue only comes as two formats together, with a deluxe gatefold jacket housing both a CD and 12" vinyl record. A high-gloss spot varnish accompanies this full color, die-cut gatefold jacket with printed black interior. The minimalistic design perfectly contrasts CAPSULE's varied creations on this simply stunning debut.

The pressing info for this mofo is as follows: (1505 copies total)
* 1000 on black
* 175 on cokebottle blue
* 175 on translucent dark blue
* 150 on clear/translucent blue with black splatter

Two tracks from this behemoth can be heard online here.

CAPSULE tape + BRAINWORMS demo + massive Online Store updates!!

Today is a good day. Not only have we put in a massive order for lots of new t-shirts, we also received some killer new releases both for the label and close friends. We're most excited to present the first release in our new cassette series from Florida's powerhouse trio CAPSULE! This thing turned out incredible, with three newly recorded tracks on side A and their entire seven song demo on the B side; it's roughly 25 minutes of furious jams! The new material is especially incredible and this serves as a fine prelude to their upcoming album we'll be releasing later on this summer.

In the meantime, a mere 200 of these were made, all with white ink on blue cassettes and a full color 4" x 9" j-card insert. All in all, we couldn't really be happier with how our first cassette release turned out and can't wait for you to see/hear this thing yourself! The band has them on the road with them (they leave tomorrow (!), here are the dates) and we're selling them for $6 postage paid in the US right now in our Online Store.

For those who haven't yet heard the glories that are CAPSULE, this trio is comprised of three dudes who have done time in Tyranny Of Shaw and Tunes For Bears, but take it to the next level with a triple-vocal yelled/sung assault over blistering tunes with monstrously heavy tunage. It's really quite unique stuff and is hard to directly compare to anyone else out there, so we highly encourage you to check out some sample MP3s either here or here.

The other main addition of note is the self-released demo CD-R by Richmond's own BRAINWORMS. These dudes are comprised of former and current Stop It, Ultra Dolphins and Are You Fucking Serious members, and seriously bring some style and intensity back into the mix. This seven track band-made CD-R has a massive and immaculate hand-made booklet with photos and lyrics, and was all recorded live in the studio (at what turned into an impromptu show), so all of the passion and force shines right through. Comparisons to Rites of Spring and Fugazi are probably inevitable, but they definitely take that early/mid-90's post/hardcore/indie style to the next level.

We're selling this massive thing for $7 postage paid, but if they're coming through your town please pick it up directly from them, as we only have a limited amount! ! They're heading out tomorrow for a ten-day tour w/ Red Wizard and you can hear songs by both bands here. Brainworms doesn't have a Myspace page (yet), so here are some possibly out-of-date tour dates:

* March 3rd: Harrisonburg, VA
* March 4th: Asheville, NC
* March 5th: Atlanta, GA
* March 6th: Athens, GA or Pensacola, FL
* March 7th: Gainesville, FL
* March 8th: St Augustine, FL
* March 9th: Savannah, GA
* March 10th: Charleston, SC
* March 11th: Greenville, NC

And finally, we've done a whole mess of trades with other labels lately and have added a fairly massive amount of awesome new additions and restocks to our Online Store this past week:

Welcome Two New Bands To Robotic Empire: CAPSULE and ULTRA DOLPHINS

Miami, Florida commands a lot of respect in the heart of Robotic Empire with several of its offspring joining our roster over the years (Tyranny of Shaw, Torche and now Shitstorm as well). We are proud to welcome its young sons known only as CAPSULE. This trio plays furious and interesting tunes of blistering proportions, combining everything from super thick riffs with frantic blasts to mellow melodic guitars that meander into jazzy interludes or suddenly collapse into thunderous maelstroms.

These comrades have served time in both Tunes For Bears and Tyranny of Shaw, but the new sounds they've created are unlike anything we've heard before. It is almost reminiscent to a few heavy screamo bands of the past in the technical/off-kilterness of Jeromes Dream or Love Lost But Not Forgotten, but taking it WAY up a notch without piercing vocals, instead opting for an innovative unison-sung triple-vocal assault that is somehow both quite grabbing and simultaneously haunting.

We are absolutely thrilled to be working with CAPSULE as their demo has more or less completely blown us away, and will be releasing a full-length CD with them early next year. In the meantime, we highly encourage you to check them out as a demo MP3 can be found here.

Having known these dudes for many, many years now (ten for one member!), we couldn't really be much happier to be working with our longtime pals, the ULTRA DOLPHINS! Another mighty power-trio to add to the fold, these Philly/NY/Richmond dudes are an absolute clobberhouse that somehow channels an incredible amount of styles to create a very passionate, noisy and unforgiving blend of post-hardcore, punk, indie, rock and way more. We're talking Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, Led Zeppelin, Frodus, Shellac, Hella, Snack Truck (with whom they share members) and just plain ol' pummeling rock in general. The live energy this band exhumes is completely uncontrollable and we are way beyond stoked to have them on board!

Ultra Dolphins are joining the label with a bang, in the form of TWO full-length releases right off the bat! Coming out early next year, one will be a collection of their Self-Titled EPs that have been wondrously remastered at Silver Sonya (the place Dischord remastered the bulk of their catalog).

The other will be a brand new full-length recorded by Laferrera (Gregor Samsa, Stop It!!, VCR) and promises to be an absolute scorcher. In the meantime, you can hear two (unmastered) MP3s from the EPs right here.
